Robert “Moose” Nelson Ostergaard, 86, of Saratoga Springs passed away May 29, 2015 in Provo, Utah. Born May 17, 1929 in Cokeville, Wyoming the son of Robert Harold and Huldah Elvira Nelson Ostergaard. He married Jennie Fisher in 1948 and they later divorced. He married Sylvia “Suzie” Park, the love of his life, August 29, 1960 in Las Vegas, Nevada their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple December 16, 1969.
His father moved the family back to Utah from Wyoming in 1942. He started working for Geneva Steel Plant in 1943 at the age of 16. He continued working at the steel plant, holding many positions and retired after 49 years of service.
In 1950 the 145th Field Artillery Battalion was deployed to Korea. He served in the Korean Conflict as an Artillery Officer. He retired from the United States Army Reserve as a full Colonel – Infantry serving 40 years, 10 months and 29 days. Moose loved the military and had a great love for his country and served faithfully and honorably.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings. He served two Family and Church History Missions and as a part-time missionary between his full time missions. He was called as an Ordinance Worker in both the Provo and Timpanogos Temples serving over 15 years.
Survivors include his wife, Suzie; children: Lynn (Linda) Ostergaard; Karie (Terry) Wood; Kay Shafter; Patti (Craig) Frazier; Peggi Hathaway; Darlene Ostergaard; Robert Ostergaard; Todd Ostergaard; Suzy (Tracy) Sylvester; 35 grandchildren; 68 great grandchildren and his sister Louise (Harry) Bartley. He is preceded in death by his parents, three grandchildren, and his brother Mack Ostergaard.
Funeral services will be held Friday June 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sunrise Meadows Chapel, 947 Jack Rabbit Run, Saratoga Springs. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, Am. Fork and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
