Williard Hodgkin

February 15, 1935 — October 25, 2021

Williard (Bill) Edward Hodgkin passed away on October 25, 2021, in Alpine, UT surrounded by his family. He was born February 15, 1935, in Portland, Oregon to Williard Edward Hodgkin Sr. & Dorothy Rigsby Hodgkin.

Bill met and married his life-long partner, Margaret Rose Dubyna (Rose), in Portland, Oregon in 1959. Bill and Rose celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this last August (2021).

Bill enjoyed playing tennis and many other sports. He especially excelled at fast-pitch Triple A softball, leading several teams as their pitcher. Bill didn’t stop playing fast-pitch ball until he was 62! He loved being outdoors, especially camping and being in the mountains. Bill had a passion for his beloved books. An avid reader with very full bookshelves, he had a hard time not adding another book to his library.

In Bill’s younger adult years, he was a teacher and boys dean at Laurelwood Adventist Academy in Oregon. It was after the birth of their two boys, that he decided to go to dental school at Loma Linda University. Graduating in 1967 at the top of his class, Bill practiced dentistry in Visalia, CA for over 30 years.

Bill was a devout Seventh-day Adventist, holding multiple leadership positions in several Adventist churches, including being an elder. His commitment to the Church extended to religious liberty efforts. Bill delivered many sermons in service to the Church and along with his wife Rose, were dedicated to serving their community.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by wife Rose; brother John Hodgkin; two sons Doug (spouse Sandy, and kids Madison, Keenan, and Bridget); Bob (spouse Denise, and kids Gillian and Cameron); and three great-grandchildren (Aylin, Rowan, and Brogan Finnerty).
