Susan Chesnut

January 26, 1955 — October 11, 2020

Susan Jan (McDonald) Chesnut, 65, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday October 11, 2020 in Pleasant Grove, UT. She was born on January 26, 1955 to Ralph George and Wanda Hall McDonald, in the Panama Canal Zone while her father was serving in Army. She met and married the love of her life, Craig Chesnut, while attending American Fork High School. They were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on March 3, 1973. Susan graduated later that year from American Fork High School.

Susan’s greatest joy came from her family. She was excited to start a family and welcomed her first son in 1974, making her parents and in-laws, grandparents for the first time. She fell in love all over again with her little boy and loved spoiling him. Susan welcomed her only daughter in 1978. This little girl put the sparkle in the world. Susan made sure the sun rose and set around her. In 1986, Susan’s family was complete when she welcomed her second son. He healed her heart and she reveled in being a more seasoned mother.

Susan worked hard to help provide for her family and found great joy in it. She worked in real estate for many years as well as an Optical Assistant. She always had a side businesses and/or creative ideas to help earn extra money for her family.

As if becoming a mother was not the happiest thing in Susan’s life, her joy multiplied when we became a grandma. She was spoiled with 10 grandkids, 4 girls and 6 boys. She was just as comfortable playing dress ups and doing hair and make up with the girls as she was playing in the dirt and rocks with the boys. She made sure her grandkids always had a gift and card for every occasion or just because. Her gifts were perfectly thought out. She would get sentimental gifts as well as fun gifts. She carved out time for grandma days and going to visit her grandkids. Nothing was more important than family.

Susan loved going camping and fishing. She made sure to take her kids to Fish Lake every year. She loved being in the outdoors with her family, fishing for crawdads, camping in American Fork Canyon or boating wherever they could launch. She always went hunting with the boys. She never would hunt, but she would always go. She loved taking care of and being with her family.

She had many talents and hobbies including making jewelry, sewing and gardening. She loved to can pickles, process tomatoes and peaches.

Susan had a strong testimony of Savior. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. She served in many capacities throughout her life but loved being in the Primary most of all. She was a compassionate woman and always saw the good in people. She was a living testament of love and sacrifice.

She is survived by her husband Craig Chesnut and their children, Randon (Lynette) Chesnut, Natalie (Ryan) Wood and Bryce (Stephanie) Chesnut and 10 grandchildren. She’s also survived by her father and brothers and sister. She is preceded in death by her mother.
