Rosemarie Vega

November 27, 1956 — August 30, 2020

Rosemarie “Susie” Flannery Vega—our wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend—returned home to her Heavenly Father on August 30, 2020 surrounded by loved ones after a short and complicated battle with Lymphoma.

Susie was born in Camden, New Jersey to Lydia Esther Aviles Rivera and William Daniel Flannery. She is the second of three children, and received the name Susie when her eldest sister repeatedly mispronounced the name Rosie. Susie was very close with her family. She loved spending time with her mom and sisters, learning to cook from her abuela and helping her abuelo at his grocery store.

Susie was born a nurturer. She always knew she wanted to be a mom and a nurse and was fortunate to recognize both dreams during this life—and in the most beautiful way. After earning her BS in nursing (which she received while still raising young children) from Brigham Young University, Susie became a labor and delivery nurse. She brought thousands of babies into this world and loved each of the mothers under her care. She was part of the Hirsche Smile team and donated her time and talents to provide life-saving reconstructive surgeries to poor children throughout Central America.

Susie married Angel Luis Vega on June 5, 1984 in the Washington DC temple. Together they raised nine children—a his, hers and our crew that filled the home with love. Family gatherings always included a good amount of chaos, a karaoke machine, laughter, lots of food and a handful (or two) of people she just met. Susie always made room in her home for people in need.

Throughout her life, Susie gained a strong testimony of the plan of salvation. Her unwavering faith brought her peace. She left this world ready to meet her Savior and reunite with her mom (Lydia Esther Aviles Rivera), step-dad (Norris Foster), abuela (Zoila Rivera Moreno), abuelo (Pedro Nolasco Aviles Lopez), brother-in-law (Valo Orozco) and many others.

Susie is survived by her husband Angel Luis Vega, children Luz Vega (Jose Uriel Zayas), Bacho (Staci) Vega, Pedro (Andrea) Meletiche, Rosa Meletiche, Juan Meletiche, Mariangel (Jake) Babbel, Vincent Vega, Marco (Tatiana) Vega, and Lydia Vega, 13.5 grandchildren, 2 great-grand children and sisters Lydia (Rocco) DePersia and MaryKay Orozco.

A small family funeral service will be held Friday, September 4, 2020 at 10 AM MDT. We welcome all those who loved her to join us via the broadcast available via Zoom.
