LaVon Coombs

November 20, 1931 — November 1, 2021

Martina LaVon Clark Coombs was born November 20,1931 in Salt Lake City to Thomas Bennard and Annie Lucille Huber Clark. She passed on November 1, 2021 at her daughter's home in American Fork just shy of her 90th birthday.

When LaVon was 16 years old, her family moved to Daly City, California where she worked as a

"Hello Girl" for the telephone company. At a New Year's Eve dance in 1950 she met a handsome sailor from Fairview, Utah named Jesse Coombs. They fell in love and were sealed in the Manti Temple on February 4, 1952.

LaVon and Jesse were blessed with six children: Randa Lucille, Vonnie Jean (Robert Coombs), JesAnn (John Allen), Joseph Allen (Toni), Bruce Picknell (Terri), and Kenneth Jesse (Kristin).

LaVon was a hard worker, artistically talented, a great mom and wonderful wife. She could sew anything from curtains to one-of-a-kind suits for her sons and dance formals for her daughters. For years she made Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls to sell at Christmas. She had an amazing talent for modifying out dated clothing into the style of the day that her children wore with pride.

She grew a huge vegetable garden from which she bottled the food her family would eat for the winter. She always generously shared her garden produce with her neighbors. She lovingly and completely gave herself to the service of her family, her friends, and her Savior.

Later in her life, she discovered that she had a talent for painting with oils and produced many lovely landscapes and still life paintings treasured by family members and friends.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in may callings and touching many lives in that service. She taught her children to live the gospel, love the Lord, find joy and satisfaction in hard work and a job well done, and to always seek to serve others.

LaVon is survived by five of her six children, 19 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and her sister Venus Cederstrom.

She is proceeded in death by her husband Jesse, daughter Randa, grandson Brandon Coombs, parents Ben and Annie, sisters Beth Myerhoff and JoAnne Pichardo, brothers Junior, Dean, Myron, Ray, and two still born siblings.
