Kerry Dean Hurst was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on the l0th of December, 1946 and died at his home in Alpine, Utah in the afternoon of Tuesday, May 5, 2020. With quiet courage he fought kidney disease and two cancers for many years, but always believed he would get well. He began kidney dialysis treatments in August of 2018, but because of orthostatic hypotension, walking became impossible.
Kerry attended Edison Elementary, Jordan Jr. High and West High school. Some of the friends met at these schools became friends forever. He played football for West and loved it, but claimed he loved singing in Mr. Mayer's choir the most. He graduated from the University of Utah, always remaining a loyal Ute fan.
Steadfast, he was a true believer in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. He boldy defended the truths contained therein. Two of his favorite callings were those of gospel doctrine teacher and scout leader.
Always sacred to him was his mission to Sweden. Kerry was proud of his own Swedish ancestry and his children, whom he proudly declared looked just like the Swedes.
He enjoyed the Swedish traditions. Serving Swedish pancakes to his family and friends brought him pleasure. Many of us were well taught the art of dancing around the Christmas tree to Smo Groderna.
Possessing knowledge of numerous topics, Kerry was often a convenient "encyclopedia." He would recall prices of groceries in the 50's; details of national and world historical events; sports highlights from long ago; the years old cars were manufactured, etc.
Professionally, Kerry worked in the field of financial services.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Joyce Carlson, and his father, Isaac Hurst.
Loving and remembering him always are his wife, Stephanie Golden Hurst, their children: Aubri Larson (Derek), Andrew Hurst (Kristi), Laura Turner (Zeth), Lisa Martin; and their fifteen precious grandchildren: Jaden, Tyler, Bradley, Tessi, Mira, Chase, Boden, Claire, Gwen, Gavin, Karson, Finn, Tyson, Wade and Mae
A livestream of the funeral service will be held Friday, May 8, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. from the Red Brick Church 165 North 100 East, Alpine, Utah. Interment will be in the Alpine City Cemetery following the services. Please share a memory on this obituary's tribute wall.
