Kathy Dobson

February 22, 1975 — January 17, 2021

Kathy Marie Owens Dobson, 45, passed away January 17, 2021 in Lehi, Utah after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Born February 22, 1975 in Provo, Utah to Jonathan Lyle Owens and Carol Ruth Owens, she spent a happy childhood with her six younger siblings. She met Arnold Fay Dobson at the BYU Bookstore; they married soon after in the Salt Lake Temple on August 4, 1994.

Calm, peaceful, and creative, Kathy gave her whole life to serving others. She loved her family with all her heart; and, more than anything, enjoyed building a home with her husband. Her family was a source of constant joy and love to her and they loved her right back. She was kind. She was considerate. Her husband and children benefitted constantly from her wisdom. She brightened the room just by being in it. If there was something that needed doing, Kathy always seemed to know what to do.

It goes without saying that Kathy was extremely talented. Her skills were legendary. Her resourcefulness was second to none. It was easy for her to make something in minutes that looked like it took months to make. It was not unusual for her family to find weeds and branches in her kitchen or living room that she crafted into beautiful arrangements and projects. In her career, she took paper and turned it into amazing works of art.

Beginning with a degree in Graphic Design from BYU, Kathy dove into the floral and craft industry and never looked back. From weddings to large-scale craft convention booths, Kathy was at home with a glue gun in her hand and paper and floral foam all around her. She had the opportunity to work in floral shops, The Joseph Smith Memorial Building Floral department, and Thanksgiving Point Floral. She went on to break into the crafting industry and found a chance to bring her skills to DCWV, Inc and LDRS Creative. It was said of one of her craft convention booth designs that it put Disneyland to shame.

She enjoyed creating and designing for charity as well. One of her last projects was designing a Christmas Tree for the 2020 Festival of Trees Charity Event. She did this in the middle of chemotherapy treatments. For Kathy, it was a joy to help others. She showed her love by serving others and barely ever slowed down. An excellent illustrator, florist, and designer; Kathy was known in the craft industry and well loved -but it was within the walls of her own home that she found her greatest joy and happiness. She is deeply, deeply missed.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Arnold; her children Scotland, Emilyn, Julese, Nathaniel, Landon, and Andrew; her parents, Jon and Carol Owens; her siblings Jonathan Owens, Jr. (Suzanne), Dwayne Owens (Rachel), Cheryl VanCott (Jason), Shauna Bastian (Robert), Donovan Owens (Patricia), Kevin Owens (Chelsea); and many nieces and nephews.
