Jean Louise Williams Paulson Lane 1930 – 2020

Jean Louise (Williams) Paulson Lane passed away peacefully, on September 30, 2020 in Provo, Utah after a three year fight with cancer.

Jean was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 3, 1930 to Dr. Ariel L. and Louise (De Young) Williams where she grew up with her brother Ariel L. Williams Jr. and sister Hannah Mae (Williams) Crum.

Jean attended Brigham Young University graduating with majors in elementary education and drama. After graduation she taught third grade at Pleasant Grove Central School. It was during this time that she started to date Ford Richard Paulson as he cleverly managed to sit next to her in a local choir. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 20, 1952. They resided in Provo where their four children were born. In 1968 they moved to Walnut Creek, California where they lived and celebrated 36 years of marriage before Ford passed away.

As well as raising her children, it was Jean’s privilege to work in the local schools helping children learn to read. She served in the Church in many capacities and especially cherished her years working in the Oakland Temple Pageant as the director of make-up.

After Ford’s passing, Jean subsequently married Larry Anderson and together they served a Family History mission in Oakland, California. After Larry passed away, Jean relocated to Provo, Utah where she has lived since. It is in Provo that Jean eventually met and married Raymond Lane.

Jean has enjoyed participating in local theater, ballet, square dancing, women’s clubs and vocal performance. She taught Tai Chi at the Provo Senior Center for many years. She enjoyed solving puzzles and loved to learn and discuss new things. She had a life-long passion for the performance arts and was an accomplished seamstress that lent her talents to many local productions. She delighted in using her creativity in serving her grandchildren, sewing them everything from baby blankets, booties and toys, to memorable costumes. As her children and grandchildren married, she not only helped in sewing wedding attire, but she also masterfully produced many of the wedding flower arrangements. Each of her grandchildren has something special that she has created just for them.

Jean loved the Lord and had a resilient faith in His goodness that carried her through her life. She believed in the power of prayer and had a beautiful habit of praying for each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren by name each day.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, each of her spouses; Ford Paulson, Lawrence Anderson, and Raymond Lane, and her brother, Ariel L. Williams, Jr.  She is survived by her Sister Hannah Mae (Williams) Crum, son Jan Reed (Susan) Paulson, daughters Kathryn Ann (Ronald) Brallier and Barbara Jean Laney, and son Ford David (Kimberlie) Paulson, 20 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Her family is deeply grateful for her life of love and service and will miss her greatly.

Services will be held for family only on Tuesday October 6th at Anderson Mortuary in American Fork and she will be interred in Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
