Floy Harley

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Floy Annette Moody Harley, passed away quickly and quietly on Saturday , August 14, 2021 at home surrounded by family that loved her.  She was and is adored by her family, and her loss will be felt keenly by her children and grandchildren who cherished her.

Floy Annette Moody was born on April 14, 1935 to Edgar Rollo and Emma Floy Sorensen Moody in Aurora, Utah. She was welcomed by a big loving family that included three sisters and four brothers.  Her siblings were an important part of her life, and she remained close to them throughout her time here on earth.  Floy had a blissful childhood.  She was a tomboy at heart, and she loved playing outside, riding horses, and shooting her "Tommy" gun.  Because her father was a school principal, she lived in several places while growing up including Tooele, Milford, and Beaver.  During Junior High, her family moved to Baldwin Park, California, but they eventually settled back in Provo, Utah where she attended High school. Each place brought special friends and sweet memories.  She always loved going back to Aurora and Delta during the summers to spend time with favorite cousins, aunts, and uncles.

After graduating from Provo High School, Floy went to Brigham Young University where she earned a degree in elementary education.  Floy was always an outstanding student and graduated from BYU with honors.  During a summer visit to Seattle with friends, Floy met Timothy Walter Harley who later became the love of her life.  They were married for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple on June 26, 1958.

Floy and Walter had five children, Quin, Timmie Lynn, Victoria, Jill, and Jared.  Together they devoted themselves to raising their children and to giving service to church and community.

Floy and Walter spent their first two years in Centerville, Utah.  At that point they decided to move to California where Walter taught school.  They were there for three years when they decided to move back to Charleston, S.C. to help Walter's ailing mother.  Floy and Walter stayed there for the next fifteen years.  This became a precious time in the life of Floy.  She made lifelong friends and was very active in the church and community. Eventually they moved back to Utah and settled in the quaint town of Alpine, where she remained until her death.

Floy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She had an unshakeable testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ and of the restoration of His church here on earth.  She had an unquenchable thirst for the scriptures and spent her life reading and studying them.  Her numerous sets of marked scriptures and journals were among her most priceless possessions. Floy never wearied of reading The Book of Mormon and never shied away from the chance to declare her belief in its truthfulness.  During her life, she served in many callings in the church, including Primary President (ward and stake), Relief Society President (ward and stake), Young Women President, and Gospel Doctrine Teacher.  Her favorite callings though were always when she could teach others about the gospel.  Regardless of whatever calling she served in, Floy always served with complete devotion and gave her very best to whatever the Lord asked of her.

Floy was an amazing mother and grandmother.  She loved creating memories with her family and instilling lasting traditions with them.  She filled her children's lives with trips to the Smokey Mountains, picnics at the beach, crabbing escapades, and parties for everything imaginable. Floy made holidays magical and could turn an ordinary outing into a "Go and Do" adventure.  She loved nature and enjoyed all the beautiful things of the world.  She marveled at God's creations and especially reveled in the "signs of spring" or the "artist's palette of autumn."  Floy was very creative and could make the best Halloween costumes ever!  She also loved to oil paint and enjoyed painting pictures of the world around her.

Floy was known for her countless sayings that she often shared with her family, but the one that probably sums her up best is "Life is short and full of trouble, so let's be happy and love each other."  Her children and grandchildren always knew how much she loved them. One of the last things she said was to tell her grandchildren how proud she was of all of them.

Floy Harley is survived by her children Timmie Lynn (Vaughn), Victoria Lee (Todd) Franks, Jill Marie (Joseph) Nilson, and Jared Byron (Makel) Harley, 19 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.  She also leaves behind two beloved brothers, Brian (Sandy) and Bruce (Mary) Moody, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Timothy Walter Harley, son Quin Brent Harley, parents Edgar Rollo and Emma Floy Moody, as well as two brothers (Paul and Howard) and three sisters (Madge, Doreen, and Marilyn).

A viewing to celebrate her incredible life will be held Thursday, August 19 at Anderson's Mortuary in Highland, Utah (6141 W 11000 N.) from 6:00-7:30. The following morning, Friday August 20, a viewing will also be held from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Village Way Chapel (901 East Village Way) in Alpine, Utah.  The funeral will then begin at 11:00 a.m.  All friends and family are invited to join us.

Burial will follow at the Provo City Cemetery.
