Dr. David Crane

May 19, 1953 — September 7, 2022

On September 7, 2022, Dr. David Keith Crane D.D.S. of San Jose, CA passed away unexpectedly at the age of 69. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.  He met everyone with a warm smile and made them laugh with his iconic sense of humor. He was sincerely compassionate and found joy in lending a gentle hand and a tender heart to his family and to anyone in need.

Dave was born in Salt Lake City, UT to his loving parents, Dr. Keith Franklin and Phyllis Dorene Crane on May 19th, 1953.  When he was 7, his family settled in San Jose/Saratoga.  During his youth, he developed a passion for fast cars and motorcycles, loved to play his guitar, and worked diligently to achieve the best school grades.  He was involved in Boy Scouts of America and achieved the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout.  Scouting was an important part of his life and he continued to serve and help others through its program for decades.

From 1974-1976, Dave served as a missionary in the Italy Rome mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Following his mission, he graduated from BYU, Provo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 1978 and earned his Doctoral Degree in Dental Surgery from the University of Iowa in 1982. He practiced Dentistry for over 40 years and was loved and adored by his patients, especially for his gentle care.

Immediately following his graduation from Dental School, he met Debbie LeBaron at a church dance.  After 3 years of courting, they were married for time and all eternity in 1985 in the Oakland, CA temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  On August 24th, they celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. As a father, he devoted himself to serving, teaching, and caring for his 4 children who loved him immensely.  He taught them to “never give up, never surrender.”  While his sons were in Scouts, he helped them become undefeated in Pinewood Derby racing in the Bay Area.  He mastered the craft and helped his children and many others over the years to make the fastest cars.

Dave loved adventures and had many hobbies.  He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and one of his favorite pastimes with them was playing board games.  He also enjoyed camping, deep sea fishing, tinkering with electronics, reading, gardening, investing, and tending to his chickens.  He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and lived his life in harmony with the Savior’s teachings.  Like Christ, he visited the sick and needy, showed love to those who were broken-hearted, and was empathetic to anyone who needed help.

He is survived by his wife Debbie Crane, 4 children: Daniel (Melinda), Carl (Rebecca) Amber (Brent), and Emily; 6 grandchildren, and younger brothers: Scott, Steve, and Brent. His wife, children, and 6 grandchildren will miss him dearly and forever cherish their memories and moments of laughter with him.
