Douglas Beck

Douglas Giles Beck passed away due to cancer on January 4, 2022 in Preston, Idaho.

He was born to William LeGay Beck and Lois Helen Shepherd on July 7, 1951 in American Fork, Utah. He spent his childhood in Alpine and Richfield, Utah, where he graduated from Richfield High School. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England Mission. He married Alane Vawdrey on September 13, 1974 in the Salt Lake Temple.

After he obtained his BS degree in Civil Engineering and his Masters degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Utah State University, he worked as a consulting engineer. He was licensed as a Professional Engineer for 36 years. They lived in Logan, Utah; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Riverton, Utah; and settled in Bluffdale, Utah where they raised their children and taught them the importance and appreciation of working, farming, and living a self-sustaining life. The family enjoyed backpacking in the Wasatch and Uintah Mountains.  Doug enjoyed breeding, raising, training, and working draft horses on his farms. Later, they moved to Arcadia, Utah and finally Preston, Idaho.

He served faithfully in many stake and ward callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Bishop. He also served on culinary and irrigation boards for 35 years.

Doug is survived by his wife, Alane, and their children; Carrie (Ryan Jacobs) Culpeper, Virginia; Erin (Wade Hirschi) Star Valley, Wyoming; Crescent (Kevin Miles) Uintah, Utah; Lara (Jared Riley) Perry, Utah; Trent (Emily)Deweyville, Utah, Alisa (Cade Huskinson) Wellsville, Utah; and Kade (Megan) Elkins, Arkansas. Also survived by 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild and survived by his sisters; Norine Nelson, Karen Bybee and Janeen Hernandez. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The importance of who Doug became overshadows his accomplishments. He went about doing good and sought to become even as Christ is.

“I’ve had a good life with a great wife, Alane, wonderful children, and a lifetime of memories.”

Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 8, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Anderson & Sons Mortuary located at 49 East 100 North, American Fork, UT. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral services from 9:45 - 10:45 am at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Alpine City Cemetery. Please share a memory on Douglas's tribute page.
