Clair Norton

August 15, 1941 — October 11, 2021

Clair James Norton, at the age of 80, passed away on Oct. 11, 2021, at his home in American Fork UT.  He was born to Doyle Ellison Norton and Thelma Norton on Aug 15, 1941, in Heber City, UT.

Clair and his brother Ray whom he had a very close bond with, especially after the passing of their father at the young age of 11 and 13, were raised in Heber City.  He graduated from Wasatch High School in 1959.  He later served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern Central States Mission, where he formed lasting friendships and cherished memories.  He loved the church and served faithfully throughout his life in many callings including two bishoprics as a 1st counselor and an executive secretary, served on the Stake High Council and taught Gospel Doctrine and Sunday School.

He married Janet Kunder in 1967 and they had five children together.

His career in banking started at Zions Bank in Heber City where he worked his way up to manager.  He was also a member of the Heber Valley Rotary Club, where he enjoyed serving with other businessmen in the community.  After 20 years he was recruited to Afton 1st Bank in Afton, Wyoming as a Bank President.  He enjoyed his time serving in the community there, however he missed his home in Heber and decided to move his family back there where he worked at Valley Bank as a manger.

He had a love of cars, horses, rodeos and anything BYU, especially football games.  He enjoyed playing most sports, mainly tennis and basketball.  In his later years he loved playing ping pong with his family and got overly excited when he'd win.  He had a fun sense of humor and was such a prankster.

He loved his children and grandchildren and savored any time spent with family.  One of his last family gatherings was a grandchild's mission farewell on his birthday.  He couldn't have been prouder. He is much loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed!

His is survived by his children: Lana (Brian) Carter, Gregory (Amy) Norton, Eric (Carly) Norton, and Bryce Norton, ex-wife Janet Norton, 22 grandchildren, his brother Ray (LaRue) Norton, brother-in-law Garn (Yolanda) Kunder, Carol Kunder, nieces and nephews and many close personal friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Ryan Norton, nephew Brent Norton, and brother-in-law Rolland Kunder.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 20th at 11:00 a.m. at the American Fork 25th Ward Chapel, 320 North 100 East, American Fork, UT.  A viewing will be held from 9:45-10:45 a.m. preceding the funeral. Interment will be in the Nephi Cemetery.
