Bert Rogers

September 27, 1943 — September 29, 2021

Bert Russell Rogers, 78, of American Fork peacefully returned to his heavenly home on September 29, 2021 in Orem, Utah.  He was born September 27, 1943 in Lehi, Utah to Russell Ritchie Rogers and Alice Durfee Rogers.  He married his sweetheart, Karen Maria Grover, on June 21, 1965 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  He was an incredibly devoted and loving husband.  Their 56 years of marriage were characterized by weekly date nights, complete devotion to each other, and always holding hands.  Together they have loved and been involved with the Navajo people for over 40 years.

Bert was very hardworking, loved working with his hands, and had a special talent for woodworking.  His life was spent using his hands to quietly love and serve others while refusing payment.  He could always be found working on a project or fixing something for someone else.  His greatest joy was his family and he loved nothing more than spending time with them, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Each one knew that they were Grandpa’s favorite and they were delighted by his sense of humor, twinkle in his eye, and handmade gifts.  He loved nature, camping, gardening, traveling with his sweetheart, and taking his family motorcycle riding when they were younger.  His last thoughts were of his family and his love for each of them.

Bert was a life-long, active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a firm and unshakeable testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  He served in many callings throughout his life and especially loved his time as a temple worker.  He served three full-time missions for the church:  as a young man in the Florida Mission, then with his sweetheart in the Arizona Phoenix Mission (CES) and the New Mexico Farmington Mission.  Bert’s quiet strength and perpetually kind demeanor drew others to him especially in time of need and he was always there to help without judgment while sharing his testimony.  He was a great example to everyone he met.

Bert is survived by his wife, Karen, children Kurt (Ruth-Ann) Rogers, Tracy (Sherri) Rogers, Stephanie (David) Phillips, Courtney (Tammey) Rogers, Ammon (Tonia) Rogers, foster daughter Virginia Tulley, 40 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Josephine Duke, Lucinda Fisher, and Debbie Christensen.  He is preceded in death by his parents, daughters Angela and Maria Rogers, and his sister Shirlene Miller.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday October 6, 2021 at 11:00am in the American Fork 1st Ward, 381 South 300 East.  Friends and family may call from 9:45-10:45 prior to the services, or Tuesday October 5th from 6-8pm at Anderson and Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork.  Interment will be at the American Fork Cemetery.
