Arthur Fredrick Mitton, 89, passed away on January 18, 2021 in American Fork, Utah. He was born on January 13, 1932 to Alex Coyne Mitton and Bodil Lerona Piepgrass in Kalispell, Montana.
Art loved training horses and loved the thrill of watching the horses run. His expertise of picking the winner was unmatched. He also loved raising cattle, and wheat farming and was a master mechanic/machinist. He spent most of his life in Kalispell and loved Montana. He was an extremely dedicated son and brother and spent many years caring for his mother and sister. He would often provide wood to heat the homes of less fortunate families and could often be found helping widows. Art also worked for many years on the Great Northern railroad where he earned money to support the family.
Art served for 13 years in the National Guard where he never served a cold meal to his men. He achieved the Expert level marksman with M1 and .30 caliber rifles and was regarded as a crack shot.
He is survived by his sisters: Lois Gaunt, Marva Stanley, several nephews and great nephews and nieces. Although he never married, he was like a father and grandfather to many of them. He specifically requested no funeral services and would prefer that people gather with their families and have ice cream and smiles in memory of him. Interment will be at Memorial Estates in Utah.
