Vicki Ann Sinclair Meyring, cherished daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home, after a swift-moving battle with Alzheimer's Disease, on June 14, 2025, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Born on April 23, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John Philip Sinclair and Marie Harrington Sinclair, Vicki was welcomed by older sister and lifelong friend, Kathy.
Vicki's early years were marked by both hardship and joyous, simple pleasures, as later Marie Sinclair would raise Kathy and Vicki as a single mother, working multiple jobs to care for her girls. The three women became each other's best friends and closest confidantes, developing both fond memories and a unique, shared sense of humor amidst life's challenges.
As a teen, Vicki worked for her grandparents at Apex Sales & Service, an appliance repair shop, where she picked up many skills, including a mind for business, a distinctive ability to find amazing deals, and a passion for organization that stayed with her throughout her life. Each night, as Vicki readied her own family for bed, she would repeat her grandmother's words: "We're closing up shop!"
As a graduate of East High, Vicki went on to receive a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in elementary education. During this time, she met and married Mark H Johnson, and they became the proud parents of four children: David, Douglas, Danny, and Julie. After the loss of two additional children, as well as her mother and grandmother in a short span, the couple divorced, and Vicki herself became a single mother for a time.
In time, Vicki's faith led her to connect with a pen pal with whom she could share her deepest joys and sorrows, thoughts and impressions. After months of weekly and then daily letters, the two finally met and began to court. On February 14, 1987, Vicki married her sweetheart, Dennis Richard Meyring. They were sealed in the Provo Temple in August of that same year. Their combined families consisted of 12 children.
She poured her heart into her family and her faith, serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in a wide range of callings, her favorite of which were those that involved teaching. At home, she used the small teaching moments with her children to build their testimonies and increase their faith in Jesus Christ. She was a powerful and undeniable force for good.
Vicki's passions included spending time with family, including her children and her 36 grandchildren, playing board games with her trademark competitive zest, going for walks and canyon drives, and watching and attending football games, especially BYU football. Her great passion for teaching school only grew, and she went on to do so for an astounding 50 years. Students loved and remembered Mrs. Meyring's classroom as a place where they were loved and where they were taught in inventive-and yes, organized-ways.
Her life was a tapestry of small sacred moments, strong values, and enduring love. She created a home where love was felt by all who entered, where positivity and humor were daily staples, and where the spirit of the Lord could reside. A truly remarkable woman.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 38 years, Dennis; her children and adoptive children-David Johnson, Douglas Johnson (Sara), Daniel Johnson (Camille), Julie Clark (Kelly), Wei Xie (Keeley), and Evelyn Johnson; her grandchildren; and a host of friends and extended family who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her mother, Marie Sinclair, and her two stillborn daughters, Karen Marie and Debra Lee.
