Vernon Delyle Fraughton (Dee) passed away peacefully on April 3, 2023, in American Fork, Utah surrounded by family. His strength and love of life carried him through 90 years.
Dee started life in the tiny town of Tabiona, Utah on June 30, 1932, born to Lyle M. Fraughton and Ella Wagstaff Fraughton. He attended schools in Woodland, Park City, and American Fork. Dee graduated from American Fork High where he met Carol Penrod. They were married the day after Christmas in 1951 and were together almost twenty years.
With a wife to support, Dee decided to join the Air Force where he would gain experience and an interest in radios and electronics. He was in the Air Force for four years and that was when his first three children, Karl, Micheal, and Jody were born. After an honorable discharge, Dee and Carol moved back to Utah.
Dee enrolled at the University of Utah with the goal to advance his career as an electrical engineer.
After four years, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. His second daughter Keeley was born while Dee was attending the U of U.
After college, Dee and Carol moved back to American Fork and added two more sons to the family, Jeffrey and Wayne. In 1967, the family finally settled into their home on 100 East in American Fork where Dee lived for over 50 years. He loved his home with the beautiful views of Mt. Timpanogos.
Dee was employed as an electrical engineer for many years at several companies including Geneva Steelworks. He finished his career at the Tooele Army Depot helping with the disposal of the chemical weapons stockpile.
In his later years Dee met Jean Valdez. Together they would share a home for over twenty years, spending their retirement with their Shitzu dogs. Jean passed away in 2016 and Dee really missed her. To fill the emptiness Dee found Buddy, his German Shepherd puppy. Dee spoiled that dog with fresh bones and pork chops every day. He spent many afternoons sitting on his patio with Buddy just enjoying the view.
Dee is survived by four children, Karl (Lydia) Fraughton, Washougal WA, Jody Fraughton, Pleasant Grove, UT, Jeffrey (Jill) Fraughton, American Fork, UT, Wayne (Lisa) Fraughton, Lehi, UT, daughter-in-law MaryAnn Fraughton, Evanston, WY, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren with one on the way, and 8 great great granchildren and another on the way.
