Stuart Michael Lake

Feb 21, 1990 — Oct 1, 2026

Stuart Michael Lake burst into the world on February 21,1990 with a twinkle in his eye, a laugh in his belly, and love in his heart. Born and raised in Palm Springs, CA, he spent a magical childhood of sunshine, swimming pools, mud baths, laughter, friendships, and skateboards. He passed away of heart complications after jamming out at his favorite concert early on Thursday, October 1, 2026 in Salt Lake City, UT. Stuart graduated from Palm Springs High School in 2008 and was ready to take on the world.

A man of motion, energy, and ideas, he was always scheming, dreaming and creating plans for fun. Nothing excited Stuart more than the idea of a new business proposal, a book idea, an art project, or travel plans. Stuart loved people, and drew them to him. He welcomed them without reservation, without judgment, putting them at ease and making room for them on his couch. Stuart loved learning, and attended Brigham Young University, graduating in Biology. He served a mission for the LDS church in McAllen Texas, speaking Spanish to the people there. He collected knowledge and bits of information as one of his many hobbies. Stu was a master of Trivial Pursuit and Jeopardy, his mind a steel trap of all types of knowledge, and he spent hours competing with friends and inviting everyone into the game. Stuart was passionate about the music he loved, and he proudly claimed the music for every car trip. Artists, their music and words became a big part of his world.  He collected books, watches, ties, t-shirts and much more. He devoted himself to his imagination, the world of writing, and thinking intensely about everything. A deep dive was his favorite way to any topic. He loved podcasts of politics, science, history and exploring fantasy worlds. Stuart loved horses and cherished those weekends spent riding his horse on a cattle drive in Southern Utah.  Stuart loved his family, and was so invested in spending time with them. He sent text messages and words of connection and concern to everyone. And he loved nothing more than to come to your home, lay down on the couch and visit. Stuart was often described as "the coolest nerd I have ever known." Our Stuart, such a renaissance man.

He will be missed by all of his family and friends, including his mom and dad, Robert Michael and Madelyn McKnight Lake, his brother John Scott Lake, sisters Emily Afton Lake, Melissa Magdalen Wright (Daniel), Sarah Lake Stinnett (Wade), and Mary Lake Bennett (Jeffrey). His darling nieces and nephews include: Maggie, Findlay, Carter, Benjamin, and Jack Wright, Hazel, Owen, and Archie Stinnett, Tommy and Baby girl Bennett. Oh, how we will miss our Uncle Stubie.

In lieu of donations and flowers we would love for you to just live a little more like Stuart. Spend time with friends, go to a concert, listen to a song that speaks to your soul, reach out and love your people.
