Stanley Brent Smith

Stanley Brent Smith, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 14, 1944, in American Fork, Utah, to Robert and Norma Smith.

Stan was raised in American Fork as the fifth of seven children. His childhood was filled with hard work on the family farm, where he developed the strong work ethic, love of the land, and deep appreciation for family that would define his life.

During his years at American Fork High School, Stan excelled in athletics and leadership. He proudly played on the school's State Championship football teams in 1961 and 1962, participated in track and field and wrestling, served as Student Body Vice President, and was President of the Future Farmers of America. After graduating in 1962, Stan answered a higher calling by serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern Far East Mission, where he faithfully served the people of Taiwan.

Upon returning home, Stan married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Mary Kaye Hatch, on February 17, 1967. Together they built a beautiful life and were blessed with five children, who remained the greatest joy and pride of their lives.

Stan graduated from Brigham Young University in 1968. He began his career with First Security Bank before pursuing his passion for real estate. Through his work, he acquired and developed several properties that became cherished gathering places where family created countless memories together. Although his career evolved, he never lost his love for farming, raising animals, and working the land.

Service was at the heart of Stan's life. He faithfully served as bishop, where he was deeply loved for his compassion, unwavering faith, and genuine concern for others. He offered unconditional love, wise counsel, and Christlike service to everyone he met, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.

Nothing brought Stan greater happiness than his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an extraordinary grandfather and great-grandfather. Whether serving as a caretaker, cheering from the sidelines at countless games and performances, or simply sitting down to listen, Stan made each member of his family feel valued and loved. His quiet strength, thoughtful advice, and constant encouragement made him a trusted mentor and friend to generations.

Stan is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Kaye; his children, Kevin (Brice), Kyle (Chalise), Kirk (Rebecca), Kristen (Andrew), and Klint (Natalie); 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Norma Smith; his parents-in-law, Orlan and Elsa Hatch; his brothers Glen, Myron, and Stephen; his grandson, Keaton; and his great-grandson, Benson.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Symbii Home Health and Hospice team, especially Raegan and Lisa, for the exceptional care, compassion, and love they showed Stan and his family. They also extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Douglas Mower, as well as the many friends and loved ones whose prayers, kindness, and steadfast support sustained Stan throughout his journey with dementia. Because of the devoted care of his wife and children, Stan was able to remain in the comfort of his home throughout his final days.
