Our sweet Mimi has completed her earthly life September 12, 2024.
Rosette Rindisbacher Krahenbuhl Richan was born on July 7, 1929 in Arisdorf, Baselland, Switzerland at her grandfather, Jakob Rindisbacher's, farm. She was the second child of Walter Rindisbacher and Eva Jeger. She had three brothers and one sister: Jakob, Walter, Michael and Alice. All but Walter have preceded her in death.
At the age of three, she moved to the beautiful ski resort town of Arosa, Switzerland but continued to spend her summers at her grandfather's farm in Arisdorf. She loved telling stories of her growing up years in Switzerland to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also kept in close contact with her Swiss family throughout her life.
At age 16 she finished her formal schooling and began business school. While working on her business program she met Arthur Friedrick Franz Krahenbuhl and they started dating. She graduated from business school in 1947 and married Art on May 11, 1948 in Lucerne, Switzerland. They were sealed as a family on May 11, 1960 in the Logan Utah Temple.
Rosette and Art wanted to immigrate to America, and after WWII, with the Swiss economy unable to support Art as a baker, they decided it was time to go. There, they could raise their family and be close to the religion (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) they had both embraced. They worked hard, sold what they had, and with a baby on the hip, a baby on the way and $250, they set sail on the Queen Mary in 1950.
They embraced the challenge of learning a new language while making a living and raising five children: Alfred, Mark, Joanne, Kenneth and Douglas. They raised their family in: Peoria, IL (9 yrs), Ogden, UT (1 yr), and Cottonwood Heights, UT (18 yrs). While living in Cottonwood Heights, she sang and yodeled and Art played accordian in the Swiss Chorus Edelweiss. In 1978, they purchased the American Fork Bakery where Rosette ran the front of the bakery (sales, design and customer service) and Art made the delicious goodies. She enjoyed the next 46 years in American Fork and had many dear friends.
In 1989, Art passed away and Rosette continued to run the bakery for another year. After she sold the bakery, she returned to Switzerland to care for her aging father until he died in 1990.
When she came back from Switzerland she was swept off her feet by Keith Richan and they were married on January 8, 1991. They blended his two living children with her five children and she loved them all. Together they delighted in traveling the world, being a part of The Good Sam's Club (Motor Home), "snow-birding" in Mesa, AZ. They enjoyed gathering their family for Santa Day, a Swiss tradition, and family reunions. Rosette cared for Keith in his final years until he passed away in 2007.
She loved serving in the Mount Timpanogos Temple and cherished her testimony of Jesus Christ and the Plan of Salvation. She taught Primary for many years and loved seeing her Primary kids serve missions when they grew.
Mimi was her favorite name, since it was what her 19 grandchildren and 44 (plus one on the way) great-grandchildren called her. She had the most generous heart and showed her love to her posterity by helping them financially and in every other way she could. She shared her favorite Swiss traditions by teaching many of her grandchildren to make Brätzeli (a delicious Swiss cookie), Spätzle (a yummy Swiss egg noodle) and her beautiful Swiss Braid bread.
Throughout her life she found joy in yodeling, knitting, crocheting, baking and serving others. She was devastated by the loss of her eyesight in her later years as it prevented her from doing the things she loved. However, she found ways to share her warmth by calling family and friends on the phone to show interest in their lives.
Her grandchildren: Christian, Spencer, Stephanie, Steffani, Amber, Andrew, Nathan, Ben, Devry, Artie, Cortney, Erin, Fara, Hallie, Greg, Aaron, Daniel, Rebecca, and Rachel.
We love you Mimi, and will miss you until we meet again.
