In Loving Memory of Richard Wyant Headrick June 22, 1943 - May 27, 2025
Richard Wyant Headrick, affectionately known as "Dick," passed away alongside his beloved wife, Teddy-Jo, on May 27, 2025, in a car accident in New Castle, Colorado. He was 81 years old.
Born on June 22, 1943, in Warren, Ohio, Dick was the eldest child of Harry William Headrick Sr. and Virginia Olive Wyant. He grew up in a loving family with seven siblings and carried a strong sense of responsibility, leadership, learning, and faith from a young age.
A graduate of Champion High School in 1961, Dick went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Ohio University in 1966. His early career began at Shell Chemical Company, where he demonstrated a natural aptitude for problem-solving and innovation.
While working for Shell, Dick met the love of his life, Teddy-Jo Taylor. They were married on August 24, 1968, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and were later sealed in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple on June 24, 1969. Their marriage was marked by deep faith in Jesus Christ, tireless devotion to each other, and a shared sense of purpose.
Shortly after the birth of their first son, the family moved to California, where Dick pursued further education. Teddy-Jo returned to work as a nurse anesthetist-while eight months pregnant- to provide for their small family while Dick earned his Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1972.
Dick dedicated the majority of his professional career to Pacific Gas and Electric, where he made significant contributions; yet his proudest achievement was the family he and Teddy-Jo built together. They were the loving parents of nine children: Richard, Robb, Mark, Jason, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Julie, David, and Matthew. Their home was one of faith in Jesus Christ, work, laughter, learning, and enduring love.
In January 2003, Dick and Teddy-Jo served as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cape Verde. There, Teddy-Jo provided medical care while Dick initiated a family history program that would bless generations to come. They returned home in June 2004 with hearts full of gratitude for the people and experiences they encountered.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Virginia, and his brother Tom. He is survived by his siblings: Harry (Donna), Tim (Debbie), Den (Tamra) , Jacqueline Williams (Steve), John, and Ginger ; his nine children; Richard (Leslie), Robb (Celeste), Mark (Randa), Jason (Kariann), Jeffrey (Lorrine), Jennifer (Rich Auman), Julie (Dan Jenks), David (Shay), Matthew (April); 43 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A man of deep conviction, faith, and a tender heart, Dick will be remembered for his lifelong discipleship to Jesus Christ, complete devotion to his family, his lifelong pursuit of knowledge, and his legacy of service which included 35 plus years in three different temples. His life was an example of integrity, love, hard work, and unwavering commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Dick and Teddy-Jo leave behind a legacy of unity, faith, and love that will continue to inspire and lead those they leave behind.
