Richard Macuen Freeman

June 17, 1944 — June 4, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Macuen Freeman on June 4,

2026, a few weeks before his 82nd birthday. Dick was born June 17, 1944, in Los Angeles, California, to Rodney Maxine Freeman and Marcella Ella Tuller. He was the second of seven children, with five brothers and one sister.

Dick grew up on the California coast where he graduated from Huntington Beach High School in 1962. He was student body president his senior year and got to be Mayor of Huntington Beach for a day. He later joined the Navy and served as a photographer aboard the USS Hancock CV-19. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran and served his country from October 19, 1966, to October 23, 1968.

Dick loved all things art. He was an avid photographer and loved to take photos of his kids and grandkids as well as anything that caught his eye. He also loved to draw and found a passion for drawing portraits. Dick loved nature and driving through the mountains, especially in the fall when the leaves changed color. He loved cars and car shows, but he especially loved taking his yellow Corvette out for a spin. He doted on his furry companions, especially Margie, his best dog and devoted friend. But he would say his greatest accomplishments were his children. He cherished time with his kids and grandkids having family dinners, celebrating birthdays, watching sports games, and just being together.

Dick had a warm personality and an easy sense of humor. He loved to tell dad jokes and funny, "true" stories. He was always smiling and loved to laugh. He made others feel welcome and part of the family.

At 22 Dick was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Missionary service became dear to his heart. He loved serving in various church callings, particularly as ward and stake mission leader. Dick also served as a senior missionary, giving tours at the Church's Conference Center in Salt Lake City.

Dick will be deeply missed by his family and friends, whose lives he enriched with laughter, kindness, and adventure. He is survived by his children: Shanda (Ryan) Bunker, Kira (Tucker) Hyde, Lanae (Pete) Davis, Josh (Heather) Freeman, Jake Freeman, Mandee (Milo) LeBaron, and Eddie Freeman, and 24 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rodney and Sheryl Freeman and Marcella and Dale Parker and his brothers, Dirk and Brett Freeman.

To honor his memory, a funeral service will be held at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 1700 W, Bluffdale, UT 84065, on June 17, 2026. A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family are invited to gather as we celebrate the extraordinary life of a remarkable man who taught us the importance of love, adventure, and living life to the fullest.

Rest in peace, Dick. Your journey continues in the hearts of all those who love you.
