Reed Holbrook Facer

Jun 14, 1932 — Oct 3, 2026

Reed Holbrook Facer passed away quietly at the age of 94 on October 3, 2026 in American Fork, unable to recover from a badly broken leg. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all those he knew.

Reed was born June 14, 1932 in La Grande, Oregon, to William Henry and Amanda Holbrook Facer. He was the seventh of eight children. Being born in the midst of the Great Depression, he was taught to work hard and make the most of what they had. The family moved numerous times over the years. He spent his youth in Star Valley Wyoming on this father's dairy farm. Those formative years instilled in him a solid work ethic and lasting appreciation of life's simple pleasures. In the early 1950's, the family moved to Springville, UT where he met and fell in love with a red-headed girl next door named Billie. She waited for him while he served an LDS Mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil and upon his return, he married the love of his life, Billie Darleen Clark, on April 16, 1955. They were later married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 16, 1955. Reed and Darleen (as she preferred) had 5 children together Wendy, Karen, Gary, Craig, and Kristen. In 1971 they purchased their forever home in American Fork, raised a family and a garden, and was the place he stayed until the end. Reed worked as a rate clerk in the trucking industry for many years, worked alongside Darleen as a Church custodian, and had a carpet cleaning and sharpening business.

Reed lived what seemed a thousand lives in his 94 years. A railroad accident took part of his hand, and polio slowed him down. A motorcycle accident in 1969 would forever change his leg and be broken 4 more times, the same leg he broke that put him in the hospital one final time. Many illnesses, numerous skin cancers, a massive growth on his spine never stopped him. Life wasn't easy, but he always adapted to the trials put before him and never complained. He put his trust and faith in the Lord to get him through. He outlived all his siblings, even one that lived to be 100. He took care of his dear wife through her health issues until she passed in 2007. Even in his last years, he took care of himself at home the best he could.

The true joy of his life was his beloved wife, 5 children, 25 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren. He loved the Gospel and serving others. He was the hardest working man around and his disabilities never stopped him. He was the best all-around handyman and could "fix" just about anything. He was funny and loved a good dad joke, told endless stories, sang corny songs, liked to tease, loved listening to Dorris Day and Louie Armstrong, and he loved his popcorn. Reed was a great teacher and an outstanding example to all around him. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant". He was truly the greatest example of what it means to endure to the end.

He is survived by his children Wendy (Michael) Denos, Gary (Susan) Facer, Craig (Lisa) Facer, Kristen (Lou) Henderson, 25 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, and sister-in-law Edele Facer. He is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Darleen Clark Facer, daughter Karen (Kevin) Andrews, his parents William Henry and Martha Amanda Facer, and 7 siblings William (Bill), Keith, Martha, Helen, Karma, Donna, and Norman. In honor of Reed's remarkable life, Funeral Services will be held at the Hillcrest Stake Center, 165 North 350 West, American Fork, UT on Tuesday October 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. A public viewing will take place at the same location beginning at 9:45 am. Aditionally, a public viewing will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary 49 East 100 North, American Fork. Guests are invited to wear something plaid in his honor. It was his favorite color.

As we remember Reed, may we carry forward his legacy of hard work, unwavering love, and the joy found in family and friendship. Great appreciation from the family goes out to all who visited and helped take care of him in his later years.
