Randall "Randy" Frank Johnson, 75, passed away on August 15, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him. He was born on August 23, 1950, in Spanish Fork, Utah.
Randy lived a life defined by service, strength, generosity, and a deep devotion to his family. He married his beloved wife, Theresa, and together they shared 34 years of marriage, building a life together through both joyful times and tremendous challenges.
To those closest to him, Randy was someone you could always count on. Through years of family changes, hardships, and losses, he was a steady and dependable presence. If someone needed help, Randy showed up. He was generous with his time, with what he had, and with himself. He loved his family fiercely and was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and father figure whose influence extended far beyond what any one title could describe.
Randy also dedicated much of his life to serving his country. He enlisted in the U.S. National Guard on March 4, 1970, and went on to serve a long and distinguished military career, ultimately retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4). His dedication to service and leadership left a lasting impression on those around him. His military career and the opportunities it gave him would later inspire his daughter and granddaughter to enlist and follow in his footsteps of military service.
For much of his life, Randy was remarkably active and physically fit. He developed a particular passion for cycling and embraced it wholeheartedly, spending countless hours on his bicycle and completing rides stretching hundreds of miles. Those who rode alongside him knew that Randy liked to ride fast and fearlessly-sometimes more fearlessly than those who loved him would have preferred. His adventurous spirit and determination were unmistakably Randy.
At home, Randy could frequently be found helping Theresa with her latest project-building something, fixing something, moving something, or figuring out whatever new idea had captured her imagination. Over more than three decades together, they cared for one another through life's ordinary moments as well as its greatest challenges. His patience, dependability, and willingness to lend a hand became part of the fabric of their life together.
In his later years, Randy faced significant chronic pain and declining health that resulted in numerous hospitalizations. It was difficult for those who loved him to watch someone who had always been so strong and active endure so much.
Fittingly for a man who spent so much of his life helping others, Randy's final act was also one of generosity. Through organ donation, his liver was donated to give another person a chance at life.
Randy leaves behind a family whose lives are immeasurably different because he was part of them. His absence will be felt not only in life's biggest moments, but in countless small ones-in the questions that would have been asked of him, the times someone would have called for his help, the projects he would have worked on, and his familiar spot on the couch.
He will be remembered for his strength, his military service, his generosity, his adventurous spirit, his love for his family, and, above all, for simply being there when the people he loved needed him.
Randy is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa Johnson; his cherished children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; his surviving siblings; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends who loved him deeply.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson and Sons Mortuary in American Fork, Utah. A second viewing will be held on Friday, September 4, beginning at 10:45 a.m., followed by funeral services at 12:00 p.m.
Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Bluffdale City Cemetery, 17111 South 1700 West, Bluffdale, Utah.
Randy spent his life taking care of the people he loved, especially his wife of 34 years, Theresa. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory are invited to contribute to the Randall Johnson Memorial Fund to help support Theresa with funeral expenses and the financial transition ahead. Helping care for her is a meaningful way to continue the love and support Randy gave his family throughout his life.
Randy's family will forever be grateful for the stability, love, strength, and generosity he gave them. His place in their family-and his spot on the couch-can never be filled.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Faye Johnson; his siblings, Fred Johnson and Karen Allred; and his grandsons, Nicholas Johnson and Michael Olson.
