Paul Holt

August 19, 1936 — January 11, 2024

Paul Blackett Holt, 87, of American Fork, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on January 11, 2024. Paul was born on August 19, 1936, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Lewis Payton and Alta Rosa Blackett Holt.

Paul was raised on the family farm in Spanish Fork, Utah. He attended schools in Spanish Fork, graduating from Spanish Fork High School in 1954.

Paul served a mission for The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints in the West Central State Mission from 1956 to 1958.

Paul married Carolyn Bray on July 22, 1959, in the Manti LDS Temple. They made their first home in Sandy, Utah. While in Sandy, they had their 6 children; Pauline, Dawna, Kathleen, Fred, Alan, and Keith. Their kids have many fond memories of their time in Sandy.

Paul eventually moved his family to American Fork, Utah, in 1977. He was finally able to get back to his "farming" roots. He raised many animals; rabbits, chickens, turkeys, pigs, cows and goats. He also raised vegetables--acres of tomatoes and acres of pumpkins. Paul always took pride in being self-sufficient.

Paul loved farming, hiking, camping, and gardening with his family. He also loved to serve other people. Paul always looked for ways to serve others. Helping a neighbor when in need always brought him joy.

Paul was an avid scouter, achieving the rank of Silver Beaver. He attended Wood Badge and eventually became a leader for the Wood Badge course.

Paul served in The National Guard for 8 years as a Mess Steward. He brought his love of cooking home. He was a wonderful cook who loved dutch oven cooking. Paul always made cookies out of various ingredients without a recipe.

Paul was a hard worker whether it was at home or for his work. He worked for UDOT for over 30 years as an electrician, taking care of and installing traffic signals.

Paul was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings during his life. He and his wife, Carolyn, served a mission in Nauvoo, Illinois, as Temple Workers in the Nauvoo Temple for 18 months. He also served as a Temple Worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple for many years.

Paul is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn; children, Pauline (Clyde) Mead, Dawna (Steve) Holyoak, Kathleen Thurgood, Fred (Meardey) Holt, Alan (Janalynn) Holt, Keith Holt; 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Lila Gold and Alta Marie Seamons. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Roger Thurgood; a great grandson; and siblings, Ruth Carter, Ellen Coffey, Mary Leah Henry, and Fred Holt.
