Merrill Carter

July 3, 1941 — May 6, 2024

Merrill Ross Carter, born on July 3, 1941, in Santaquin, Utah, peacefully passed away in his home on May 6, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was the cherished youngest child of Leslie and Arvilla Carter, joining siblings Maxine Hudson (Kendall), Floyd (Delores), Alan (Janet), and Terry (Bonnie).

After graduating from Payson High School, Merrill married Laura Deann Beckstrom in the Salt Lake Temple in August 1959. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming four children into their lives: Merrill Dean, Steven Boyd, Ross Darren, and JaNae.

Merrill's passion for cars led him to establish Carter’s Auto Body in Spanish Fork, where he transformed broken vehicles into works of art. Despite a back injury altering his career path, Merrill found fulfillment at Kencraft Inc in Alpine, Utah, where he met his second wife, Maria. They loved traveling, working in the garden and spending time cooking together.  Merrill and Maria were always the hosts of family parties and gatherings.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Merrill found joy in the great outdoors, guns, camping, and long drives. His love for music was evident as he effortlessly played the piano, often improvising Johnny Cash tunes or creating his own melodies. He had a special fondness for artists like the Oakridge Boys and Neil Diamond. His kitchen dances and his love of Christmas celebrations will be treasured memories for all who knew him.

Merrill is preceded in death by his sons, Merrill Dean and Steven Carter. Along with Cristhian, Maria’s son.   He leaves behind his wife of 20 years Maria, 5 children, 27 grandkids and 32 great grandkids.

A celebration of life will be held Monday May 14, 2024.  Viewing at 10 am with funeral services at 11 am.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints, 2977 E Saddle Rock Road, Eagle Mountain, UT 84005.
