His daughter Rebecca and son Jeffrey were born in California. In 1969, he accepted a position with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Western Samoa where they lived for four years. His second son, Curtis, was born in Samoa. He had the opportunity to meet and collaborate closely with many General Authorities over that time. Many wonderful memories and close friendships were created. In 1973 the family moved to Francis, Utah where he took a position as the high school principal at South Summit High School. His second daughter, Melissa, was born shortly after moving to Francis. He completed his Doctorate in 1976 from Brigham Young University. A few years later he took the position of Superintendent of the South Summit School District where he worked for many years. Not wanting to retire too early, he continued working for the state of Utah in education for a few more years totaling more than 50 years as an educator.
Mark was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. He served a mission to the Central Atlantic States Mission. He served in the Stake Presidency in Samoa, Bishoprics, and as the Bishop of the Francis, Utah ward. He loved teaching Gospel Doctrine, and he had a wealth of knowledge. He also loved working in the temple and spent untold hours over the past few years serving there. His first passion was his family, especially his dear wife Marilyn, whom he took unbelievable care of in her last years. His favorite pastime time was riding his horses in the mountains above Kamas Valley. He was an unbelievable horseman and had a driving passion when it came to all things horses.
