Mala Anderson

December 7, 1946 — October 15, 2025

Mala Joy Fowler Anderson, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, in Salem, Utah, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on December 7, 1946, in Orem, Utah, to Earl and Irene Fowler, who instilled in her the values of kindness, compassion, and a strong work ethic that would guide her throughout her life.

Mala was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Irene, as well as her siblings Tom Fowler, Norman Fowler, Jim Fowler, Judy Fowler, and Jeannie Young. She also mourned the loss of her son, Robert, and her husbands, Charles Varner, Dale Anderson, and Dennis Earl. She leaves behind a loving legacy that includes her siblings, Sandy Wadley, Calvin Fowler, and Kenny Fowler, and her children, Sherry (Lynn) Scott, Scott Anderson, Deanna (Joe) Durbin, and Todd (Kiera) Anderson. Mala's family was her pride and joy, and she cherished the moments spent with her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild, who brought her endless happiness.

Mala's commitment to her family and community was evident in every aspect of her life. She was a devoted member of the LDS Church, where she formed meaningful connections with her congregation. Her home was known to be a refuge for many, always welcoming family and friends with open arms, a warm smile, and a loving heart. Her kindness, compassion, and generosity touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Her professional journey was equally impressive. Mala earned a degree in massage therapy, which showcased her desire to help others. She dedicated 19 years to being a seamstress at JoLene's, where she was well-regarded for her skills and attention to detail. She later served as an associate at Target for 30 years, where her friendly demeanor made her a favorite among customers and coworkers alike.

Mala had a variety of hobbies and interests that enriched her life. She found joy in fishing, sewing, and reading, relishing the peaceful moments they provided. Most importantly, she loved engaging in heartfelt conversations with her family, friends, and other loved ones, finding joy in their shared experiences and cherished memories.

As we remember Mala Joy Fowler Anderson, we celebrate her loving spirit and the indelible mark she left on our lives. She was a woman of great strength, a beacon of light for her family and friends. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and the importance of family. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Utah Home Health and Hospice team and the Revere Oncology Staff for their compassionate care during her final days. We would also like to recognize our long-time family friend, Allen Tisdale, whose unwavering love and support meant so much to Mala and to all of us during her most challenging days.

Mala's funeral will take place in American Fork at Anderson and Sons Mortuary, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory, share their love, and celebrate a life well-lived.
