LoAnne Curtis

October 26, 1940 — September 5, 2025

LoAnne Richardson Curtis, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, departed this life on September 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

LoAnne was born on October 26, 1940, and grew up in Bountiful and Mount Pleasant, Utah and in Lordsburg, New Mexico. Over the years she made her home in Phoenix, Arizona; Layton, Utah; and most recently in Highland and Lehi, Utah. Wherever she lived, she blessed those around her with her kindness, faith, and steady example.

A lifelong learner, LoAnne had a deep love of reading and a particular passion for history and gospel study. She dedicated much of her life to learning and teaching the doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her testimony was strengthened through her service as a missionary. She served three missions: first in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands; later as a Family History missionary in Salt Lake City; and finally as a temple missionary in Panama.

Service was at the center of LoAnne’s life. She joyfully accepted and magnified many church callings, including Relief Society President, Young Women’s President, Primary President, and Gospel Doctrine Teacher.

Her time teaching Gospel Doctrine sparked a special love for the writings of Isaiah. With her scholar’s heart, she prepared a manuscript of Isaiah in poetic form, placing side-by-side the scriptures and all their accompanying footnotes from the LDS edition of the Bible, along with differences as recorded in the Book of Mormon, so that others could more fully study and understand these sacred writings.

LoAnne’s talents extended beyond teaching and study. She edited nine published books and coauthored two: "The Worth of Every Soul" and "James & Anne Jacobson", which she wrote with her beloved Aunt Elva.

She was also gifted in music and the arts, playing piano, organ, and clarinet. She loved to crochet, to solve word puzzles, and to play games with family, whether a competitive round of Scrabble or a deck of cards at the kitchen table.

She also had a special joy in cheering on BYU football, a tradition that always brought her excitement. She found joy in athletics, once playing in community softball leagues, and in the loyal companionship of her pets, especially her two cats, Sevario and Zuki.

While she held jobs at American Express, the United States Post Office, Sawyer Aviation, CIT, and Pratt’s Feeds, LoAnne’s greatest and most fulfilling work was in her home as a devoted mother. She poured her heart into raising her nine children and took joy in watching her family grow. Her happiest moments were those spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, attending birthday parties, concerts, sports events, and simple family gatherings. She was a constant presence of encouragement, listening to her children talk and laugh together, and ensuring everyone felt included and loved.

LoAnne was a woman of quiet strength and deep faith. She lived her testimony daily, leaning on prayer and the sustaining power of the Lord through life’s challenges. She once said, “It is the struggles, heartaches, and fears that we experience in life that result in the convictions, values, and strength of our characters.” She embodied these words, meeting trials with fortitude and trust in God. She leaves behind a powerful legacy of faith, family, and love.

LoAnne is survived by eight of her children: Don (Penny), Janae (Jeff), Tracy (Chris), Chad (Renae), Tamara (John), Wendi (Chad), Karyn (Jay), and Kristy (Jake); 40 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her four brothers Edmund (Ann), DChad (Elizabeth), Mike (Jackie), and Jared (Kadell); and two sisters, OraLyn (Steve) and Lora (Robert).

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald H. Curtis; her parents, Lola Despain and Ivan Ross Richardson; her sister, Janae; her daughter, JeriAnn (Harold); and two grandchildren, Camryn and Carter Curtis.

LoAnne’s life was a reflection of her unwavering testimony and faith. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with her eternal companion and her loved ones who passed before, and in the assurance that her influence will continue to guide them for generations to come.
