Lelia Brown Chadwick peacefully passed away on May 4th, 2026 and is now dancing with her beloved Tim. She is a child of God, daughter, wife, mother, grandma, sister, artist, and everyone's quirky best friend.
Born on December 24th, 1931 in Parker, Idaho. Which happened to fall on her parents' anniversary. She was the 5th of 13 intelligent and creative children. Growing up in Parker she had many adventures with her siblings, enjoyed riding Peggy their horse, and spending time with her Grandmas listening to stories. Shenanigans were a favorite pastime. She said, “When me, Linelle, and Wyn got together, watch out!” She was very proud of her heritage and encouraged everyone to know where they came from.
After graduating from Parker High, she followed her sister Linelle to Provo Utah and enrolled in BYU (and she loved BYU as a season ticket holder). She spent her summers as a waitress at a little cafe in West Yellowstone to pay for college. Leila graduated with a Degree in Education. She taught school in Lehi and American Fork. She thrived educating and inspiring the youth in sports, proper manners, and their curiosity in life. Grandma encouraged the girls to outplay the boys.
While attending BYU, she met her husband and sweetheart “That Stubborn Tim Chadwick”. Their first date was the film The African Queen. Grandma said he was a genius... and very handsome. He thought she was pretty good lookin! They were married and Sealed in the SLC Temple in September of 1953. Soon after Tim was drafted into the Army and deployed to South Korea.
They lived in American Fork and raised 4 sons: Neal, Charliey, Norman, and Russell. Teaching them to think for themselves and forge their own paths. Always ingenious and entrepreneurs, they started a chemical and trucking company, Insulchem, Comercial Metals and Machinery . Which was perfect for her sense of adventure! While being involved in the Cellulose Industry, they traveled around the US. Embarking on a life changing trip to South Korea. She was a dedicated and supportive partner. Tim & Leila experienced heartache early in their marriage with the loss of her first born son, Thomas Andrew. She said, “he was a beautiful blonde, chunky, sweet lil baby boy.” She believed Families Are Forever.
Leila is a spiritual and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Joyfully serving in many Callings in the American Fork 6th Ward and many other wards in American Fork. And the Singles Ward while Tim was in the Bishopric. She preferred and flourished leading the Choir. Grandma encouraged everyone to follow the Gospel and led by example. She rarely cursed, rarely.
Her world was her family. You could find her visiting with grand daughters, gals from the Seven C’s, or on a call catching up with family. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone. But if she did, you deserved it. Visitors would arrive to her playing the piano or singing. Summer time you would hear her cheering at the Cottonwood Complex as Neal or Russ played Fast pitch Softball. She went on many softball trips around the West and was their biggest fan. Attending her grandkids musical performances, school events, or Church activities, she always wanted to be involved. Grandma loved to dance, especially ballet. She enjoyed basketball, volleyball, skiing, and running track. She was very competitive.
Grandma loved to take her grand kids to get a burger, fancy new shoes, anything fun to spend time with those she loved! She was an accomplished writer of Truths, Treasures, & Trash and published her book Half Laughs Poetry. Which gave everyone a glimpse inside her imaginative mind.
Grandma was extremely proud of her grandkids CPT Thomas Chadwick & CPT Mickel Chadwick and SGT Madison Haskell (Chadwick), when they followed in Tim's footsteps and joined the US Army. She is an Honorary Gold Star Grandma, a Daughter of the Utah Pioneers, and proud Patriot.
Leila is an accomplished pianist, author, poet, 21 card shark, and storyteller. She never stopped learning, and encouraged us all to be Students of Life. The world is a wondrous place and we should know all about it. Grandma was very intelligent and could hold a conversation with anyone. She was honest, loyal, and treated everyone with respect. Her favorite color was purple and she loved opal nail polish. Going to the Hair Salon and having her hair all nice and pretty. From Bach to the Beatles, music filled her world, especially Classical Music. Peonies, lilacs and the Holidays. Grandma was hilarious! She had a quick wit and perfect comedic timing. If you wanted to have fun, and cause a little bit of innocent mischief, she was your gal!
As time sped by, Grandma wondered what she’s left behind in this life? She built a legacy!... Four sons. Neal & Cheri (Eagle Mountain), Charles & Miriam (Stockton), Norman & Tresa (American Fork), Russell & Cheryl (Herriman). 21 Grandkids, 47 Great Grandkids, and 2 Great Great Granddaughters. Sisters Ilene, Linelle, Verla, & Valerie and brother Max. Multiple loved ones, friends, and admirers.
Leila has finally been reunited with Tim and baby Thomas. Hugging her parents, Joseph Vernal & Ella Brown. Sisters Beverly, Marilyn, Eleanor, & Verus. Brothers Wyn, Jack, Joel, & Doyle Rose. Her favorite cousin SGT Micheal G. Brown (KIA Vietnam), & SFC TJS. Joyful reunions with her in laws Glen & Clara Mirriam Chadwick, Chris & Thora, Clark & Julia, Helen & Bud, Mary, Don & Verna, Clara & Joseph, Bill & Bessie, and Max & Fran.
