Kenneth Bruce Gardner passed away on May 26, 2023, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at 77 years old. Ken was born in Afton, Wyoming, to Bruce Gardner and Ressa Astle Gardner. Ken married Frances Irene Marchant on February 3, 1968, in Reno, Nevada. Ken and Fran solemnized their marriage in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake City Temple on April 12, 1974.
Ken was a steadfast servant. He served his church in many callings including as two times as a bishop. Ken constantly looked for opportunities to help his neighbors often without them knowing it had been him who had helped. For decades, Ken was involved in Boy Scouts of America; he served as scout master for all three of his boys and was awarded the BSA’s Silver Beaver Award.
Ken was an athlete and enjoyed playing sports his entire life. As a young man he played baseball which later turned to softball. He was a runner and completed four marathons. Ken loved playing pool—beginning in his boyhood where he learned to play in the poolhall his grandfather owned—and continuing through his three-times a week standing game at the neighborhood clubhouse. Ken quickly picked up and dominated any game involving cards or dice. He always loved to fish and spent countless hours fishing with his family. Ken was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing the last few years with his fellow Legends of Fox Hollow.
Ken is survived by his wife, Frances; his children: Allen (Lauren) Gardner, Michael (Julie) Gardner, and Daniel (Deborah) Gardner; his six grandsons and one granddaughter; his two great grandchildren; and his siblings: Tom (Kay) Gardner, Roland Baldwin, Dauna Baldwin, Bernell Baldwin, Elwin Baldwin, Fred Baldwin. He is preceded in death by his parents and his aunt and uncle who raised Ken and Tom from a young age.
The service for Ken will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Lehi 48th Ward chapel, 650 East 3200 North. A viewing will be held Wednesday, at 8:45-9:45 AM at the church. Please share a memory in Ken’s Guestbook at www.AndersonMortuary.com.
