Keith Lawrence Christensen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated servant, passed away on July 31, 2024, in Lehi, Utah, at the age of 88. Born on July 21, 1936, in Coos Bay, Oregon, Keith was the son of Lawrence Andrew Christensen and Thora Elaine Walter. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marvel Norton (Ross).
Keith's life was marked by faithful service, commitment, and love. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1959, he served his country with honor as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. His military service included a tour in the Vietnam War, and tours in Hawaii, California, and Japan. He was a liaison between the U.S. Navy and the Vietnamese Navy. He was also a proud member of the rowing team at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, reflecting his lifelong dedication to physical fitness and teamwork. He was awarded a Purple Heart for being wounded during the Vietnam War.
On June 19, 1974, Keith married Nancy Maughan Behunin in the Salt Lake Temple, beginning a beautiful 50-year journey together. They made their home in Orem and St. George, Utah, where they built a life centered around faith and community. Keith’s love and devotion for Nancy has been an inspiration to all who knew him.
Keith had a passion for family history and dedicated much of his time to serving the youth of his church. He especially cherished his role on the high council, where he worked closely with the young women and the scouting organizations. A man of many talents, Keith held a private pilot's license and found great joy in teaching others how to fly. He was also an avid gardener, spending countless hours tending to his yard with the same care and precision he brought to every aspect of his life.
Keith is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Christensen; his children, Joseph Gregory Behunin (Andria), Elizabeth Behunin McNeill (Douglas), and Matthew Allan Behunin (Michelle) and his grandchildren, Tyler Gregory Behunin, Jackson Douglas McNeill (Allison), Daniel Alexander Behunin, Sadie Brooke McNeill, Joshua Cade McNeill, and Sasha Elizabeth McNeill.
A memorial service will be held on August 13, 2024, at Camp Williams Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah. The viewing and memorial service will take place from 10:00 am to 10:50 am, followed by a graveside service with full military honors at 11:00 am.
Keith's legacy of service, love, and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered for his kind heart and countless acts of service. He will be deeply missed.
