Karen Nancie Dean

Karen Nancie Dean, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on July 10, 2026, in Provo, Utah. Born on December 18, 1942, in Oakland, California, to Charles William Dean and Bette Brummett Dean. Karen lived a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and a passion for learning.

Karen was many things: an avid reader, a devoted doll collector, and had an eye for great deals. Her spirit shone brightly as an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she dedicated her time to family history work. She dutifully served as a missionary for three years in the family history center. When she returned home, she served as a temple worker at the Mount Timpanogos and the Saratoga Springs Temples. Above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family-her love for them was boundless.

Karen leaves behind a remarkable legacy: her children, Michael (Amy) Maass, Marcilyn Luiz, Melanie Maass, Mignon (William) Vermason, Matthew (Debbie) Maass, and Aimee (Mike) Smith, along with 10 wonderful grandchildren and 3 precious great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving parents and her siblings, William and Stephen Dean.

In honoring Karen's adventurous spirit and the beautiful life she led, a private family service will be held, bringing together loved ones to share memories, laughter, and perhaps a few heartfelt tears. We invite everyone who knew and loved Karen to remember her fondly and celebrate the positivity and love she spread throughout her life.

Karen's legacy of love, service, and joyous family gatherings will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
