June Bassett

June Lorraine Calapp Bassett (91) returned to her heavenly home on May 27, 2015. She was born June 23, 1923, in Arena Valley, Canyon County Idaho. When she was 3 years old her family moved to Gridley, California where she grew up and then raised her family. She married Hubert Bassett on August 31, 1941. June assisted her husband with their businesses in Gridley (Gridley Iron Works and Gridley Steel Supply). Hubert passed away April 8, 1986. They had 6 Children: son Martin (deceased Feb. 9, 2015) and wife Nedra from Lubbock, Texas, son Barry and wife Diane from Mona, Utah, daughter Nancy Rieben and husband Charles from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, son Tom and wife Sharleta from Biggs, California, daughter Sherrie Stewart and husband Kenn from La Verne, California, and son Donald (deceased Aug. 2, 1966).
June graduated from Gridley High School June 6, 1941. She was the typist for the school newspaper. Because of her academic excellence she was a member of the California Scholarship Federation her senior year. She was an avid swimmer and participated in sports throughout her high school career. June went on to college to build her skills in bookkeeping and accounting.
Genealogy was her passion for over 60 years. She spent her later years living in Utah with much of her time being devoted to family history and temple work. June had a firm testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and served 3 full time family History missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: San Diego, Calif. (1987), Pittsburg, Penn. (1993), and Provo, Utah (1998).
She enjoyed canning, sewing, quilting, crocheting. Knitting, and baking. She also played the violin and sang in the church choir. Her greatest love and joy, and always the center of her life, was her family now numbering over 100 members. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed, but left us with many wonderful memories.
Funeral services will be held on Friday June 5, 2015, at 10:00 a.m, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 56 South 1300 West, Pleasant Grove, Utah 84062 (viewing at 9:00 a.m.).
A graveside service will be held at the Gridley-Biggs Cemetery June 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. where her body will be laid to rest beside her husband Hubert Bassett.
