Dad's Obituary
Our beloved brother, uncle, friend, husband, and Dad, John Karl de la Cruz, passed away on January 14 th, 2026. He died without pain at his home, a home that he made open to all his friends at all times. John was a generous, kind soul who never wanted the spotlight. Yet, he was a larger-than-life patriarch of his family, and his absence will have a profound impact on all who were close to him.
John grew up in the Millcreek area of Salt Lake City and graduated from Olympus High School. He was an adventurous guy and loved to travel, "running away" to Mexico right after turning 18. John met and married Natalie de la Cruz in 1983, and they eventually raised 3 kids. John spent his life in the service of his family, often working 3 and 4 jobs at a time just to make sure that his family was always comfortable. He ultimately dedicated his life and career to protecting others in law enforcement, retiring as a police lieutenant from Granite School District after 29 total years of service.
John had too many good attributes to list here, but the way he would probably want to be remembered the most is as someone who loved and would do anything for his family and friends. He is survived by his ex-wife, Natalie de la Cruz, kids, Nathan(Sherron), Amanda, Carrie, grandkids, Elizabeth, and Kyla; and a younger brother, David.
There will be no viewing and funeral services for John, which will be held on Saturday, January 24 th at 11 am. The address is 1510 W Parliament Ave, West Valley City, UT 84119.
