Juan Antonio Loyo, age 78, of American Fork, Utah, passed away on November 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Juan was born on March 29, 1947, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, to Juan Loyo and Isabel Lerma. He was raised in a humble household where resources were limited, but where Juan himself became a source of love and strength for his many siblings. Surrounded by a large and lively family, he learned early the value of unity, faith, and perseverance. Those early experiences grounded him, shaping his deep appreciation for life's true treasures-family, service, and gratitude-which he carried throughout his life and instilled in his posterity.
As a young man, Juan moved to Del Rio, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Edelmira (Midi) Cardenas. The two were married on October 22, 1976, beginning a marriage filled with devotion, warmth, laughter, and faith. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona Temple on November 24, 1981.
Juan and Midi lived for several years in Del Rio before moving to Utah in 1985, where they planted deep roots and raised their family. While in Utah, Juan pursued higher education and graduated from Brigham Young University-an achievement he treasured deeply.
Throughout his life, Juan was a hardworking and versatile provider. He spent many years as a skilled meat cutter and later became a successful business owner in various ventures. His work ethic was steady, humble, and unwavering-always anchored in his desire to support and uplift his family.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Juan was ordained a high priest and loved serving in his many callings. Through his faith in Jesus Christ, his sincere prayers guided his decisions, strengthened his home, and provided a foundation of discipleship and love for his family.
Juan will be remembered for his warm heart, big smile, and endless supply of silly dad jokes. His love language was good food and plenty of sweets. He especially loved his sweet Midi, whom he was married to for 49 years. He had a gift for making people laugh and feel loved, and he cherished every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, a playful and adored grandfather, and a loyal brother and uncle. His presence and laughter filled every room with comfort and joy.
Juan is survived by his beloved wife, Edelmira (Midi); his children, Aricela Loyo, Kenneth Loyo (Anna), and Giovanni Loyo (Natasha); and his treasured grandchildren: Elijah, Lupita (Benson), Mirelie, Bella, Ethan, Jakob, Xander, Vincent, and Hailey.
He is also survived by his siblings: Silvia, Javier, Arturo, Mike, Jovita, Letty, Maricela, Marilu, and Veronica.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan Loyo and Isabel Lerma; by his brothers, Erasmo and Ricardo; and by his father- and mother-in-law, Antonio and Edelmira Cardenas.
