In Loving Memory of Janice Ella Bentley

Lehi, UT - Janice Ella Bentley, age 91, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2023, at her residence in Lehi, UT. Born, along with her twin sister on September 18, 1932, in Panaca, Nevada, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Dora Mathews.

Janice had a heart full of love and was always devoted to the well-being of her family. Despite experiencing the loss of her parents at a young age and living through difficult economic times, she found solace in serving others and putting their needs above her own. Her selflessness and generous nature were evident throughout her life.

During her youth, Janice enjoyed participating in various activities. She excelled in sports, particularly softball, and cherished the time she spent swimming in the springs of Panaca and ice skating during the winters. Her active spirit extended to her involvement at Lincoln County High School, where she, and her twin sister, were elected Homecoming Queen and was a proud member of the glee club. She also participated in the school band.

Determined and hardworking, Janice was not one to shy away from a challenge. She even took on a paper route to earn enough money to purchase her own bike. This sense of independence and drive carried her through life, shaping her into the strong and resilient woman she became.

Above all, Janice held her family and her faith in the highest regard. She was an avid supporter of her children and grandchildren's various activities. For nearly 25 years, she served in the Oakland temple, then in the Reno Nevada temple. She served as a devoted missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Knoxville Tennessee mission and held multiple callings within her local congregation throughout her life, including stake and ward Relief Society president.

Known for her baking skills, she will be remembered for her mouthwatering orange rolls and ability to create delicious meals for her loved ones. It was also amazing what she could do with a can of SPAM. Even during difficult financial times, she made sure that her kids were well-fed and healthy.

Janice is survived by her children, Robert (Kathy) Bentley, Rodney (Mary Ellen) Bentley, Donald (Ronda) Bentley, Juliann (Evan) Marchant, Janet (Ron) Evans, as well as her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Joyce Forman, Neldon (Carol) Mathews, Alma (Jackie) Ernst, Sara (Ron) Matkins, and Tim (Venus) Ernst. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her daughter, Diana Bentley; grandsons, Andrew Evans and Curtis Hunting; great-grandson, Joseph Marchant; brothers, Wesley Mathews, Leslie Earl Mathews, and Doug Mathews; and sisters, Edna Guyman and Merna Sue Harbaugh.
