Jacqueline Lay

March 6, 1926 — September 23, 2021

Jacqueline Henriette Lay passed from this mortal existence on September 23, 2021, to join her husband Willis, her parents, her grandson Ronnie MacKnight, and the many friends she had lost. Also waiting to meet her would be the many ancestors that she had searched for and performed Temple work for in her extensive genealogy work.

Jacqueline was born in Northern France in 1926.  When she was five years old her father passed away as a result of mustard gas used against the French during WW1.  She always mourned the loss of her father and longed to see him again.

When she was a teenager she survived the occupation of Paris by Nazi Germany during WWII for four long years with her mother, sister and brother.  She met a US soldier during the liberation of France and then immigrated to America as a young war bride.

Jacqueline is survived by three children, Judy (Ken) Lemmon, Linda (Ron) MacKnight, Bryan Lay and a nephew in France, Gerard Cosse.  She was also the Matriarch of 13 grandchildren and 35 great grand children.

She was a homemaker first and foremost but also had many different jobs over the years, often managing retail businesses, always involved in serving other people.  She loved to cook and made especially good apple pies.

She and her husband Willis and their family were converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1959.  They were always faithful, serving in the Temple and other callings.  Above all she loved people and loved to serve others.  Jacqueline was also very dedicated to genealogy work searching out her ancestors in France.

During their lives Jacqueline and Willis lived in many different places including Germany where she learned to love the German people.

She was greatly loved by all who knew her, everyone was enchanted by her French accent, she was an example of strength and faith to her family and friends.

After Willis’ passing Jacqueline lived in Washington for several years, then moved to Utah where she lived with her daughter Judy, and then in her declining years she lived at Quail Meadow Assisted Living/Memory Care where she was cared for and loved by many young CNAs and professional care givers.  They were a blessing to her in so many ways.

Services will be Saturday, October 9th at 12 noon at the Ironwood Drive Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,10455 Ironwood Drive, Cedar Hills, Utah 84062. Viewing will be prior to the services from 10:45 am to 11:45 am.  Internment will be at the Highland Cemetery following the services.
