Ivan Henry Ferguson was born on March 1, 1925 to Ivan Wilford and Rose Marie (Heinle) Ferguson in Culver City, California. He passed away peacefully on November 28, 2022 at the age of 97. When he was 8 years old he moved with his family to Utah, where he lived the rest of his life. When Ivan was in 11th grade at Monroe high school (he later received his GED), he joined the Communications Company of the second Marine Infantry Battalion, serving from 1943 through 1946, with an honorable discharge. He was very proud of his service and was recently honored on Veterans Day for his WWII service.
Ivan worked on the farm when he was young. When his parents moved to Provo, he worked at his family's bicycle business. He was the eldest (and only son) in his family. He will be fondly remembered and forever missed by his sister, Elsie Fern (Late Evan) Chidister, as well as his children: Patsy Lee Lyons, Randy (Barbara) E. Ferguson, Rickie (Rashell) I. Ferguson, and Sheri (Late Lloyd) Paxman. He is preceded in death by his sister Carol (Late Alfred) Helquist, and his beloved daughter, Cindy Lou (Late Gary) Clifton.
Ivan is also now blessed to be with his Eternal Sweetheart, Barbara Burgi Ferguson, who we lost on March 4, 2010. They were married and sealed in the Manti LDS Temple on July 15, 1949.
Some of his greatest joys were his 5 children. He was an exceptional dad who taught his kids how to work hard, how to quietly serve others, how to have fun camping trips, and survive in any situation. We all teased that when the end of the world came, we would all go to dad's to live.
Another one of his greatest callings in life was being a grandpa/great grandpa. He wore that title well, and they never doubted his love for them. They loved fishing, camping, and working on projects together. He will dearly be missed by 28 grandkids (including 7 step grandkids), 54 great grands including (14 step great grands), and 2 (step) great great grands.
As mentioned, Dad was a hard worker. He worked 35 years at Geneva Steel in Lindon, UT. After his retirement, he and Mom (okay mainly Dad) loved going on many camping and fishing trips in the motor home, with family and the Good Sam group. He also loved to "tinker" out in his garage and built many memorable keepsakes for his home and for others. He also enjoyed working on cars (in his pit in the garage) and helping others fix things. If we needed anything fixed, grandpa could do it.
Dad was a shy person and did not like to be in the public much. However, he showed his love to others by his quiet service. He and Mom had many service opportunities through the Good Sam, he served in the Boy Scouts of America, he served as a High Priest Secretary, as a greeter for many years in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he and Mom served a couple of local missions, one at the Bishops Store House, and another as camp schedulers at Mutual Dell up AF canyon.
He will be greatly missed. He was a very kind person and was loved by all who had the honor to know him.
Funeral services will be held December 10th at 11 AM at the American Fork 5th Ward, located at 381 South 300 East. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 10-10:45 AM. Services will be provided by the Anderson & Sons Mortuary.
The family would like to express their gratitude to SGRH hospital Doctors and Nurses for their help in making our dad comfortable and at peace during His last few days.
