Ingrid Gisela Brockbank of Pleasant Grove, Utah passed away on Friday May 2nd, 2025 after a valiant fight with cancer. She was surrounded by her four children and returned to her beloved husband David Oran Brockbank whom she has missed for the past thirty years, and her great-granddaughter, Haven, as well as many other loved ones who went on before.
Ingrid was born in Berlin, Germany on June 27, 1943 to Ernst and Elli Probst, and was an older sister to Peter. After the war the family moved around Germany, leaving the East shortly before the Berlin Wall went up and finally ending up in Munich where Ingrid would work at Bavaria Film Studios on films such as The Great Escape, which she proudly shared memories of with each grandchild when it was their turn to watch the movie.
Ingrid met David in Munich Germany when he came into the photo store she worked in. David was a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Bavaria German Mission and when he later came to her door, he was let in. Ingrid was baptized by David and after moving to different parts of Germany, they were given permission by President Ezra Taft Benson to write to one another. Nine days after David returned from his mission, Ingrid came to America--not knowing any English--and they were married three weeks later in the Oakland California Temple.
After their marriage, the couple moved to Provo, Utah where David went to BYU and Ingrid continued her love of film by working at BYU Film Studio on films--including Johnny Lingo. She also worked in the MTC teaching German to the missionaries.
For many years Ingrid supported David in his role as Director of the Utah Pageant of the Arts, being the woman who could do everything and anything from casting to costumes to construction. The two had four children and the Pageant was a constant in the family's life until shortly before David's passing from lymphoma in 1995.
Ingrid worked for several years at the Church Office Building with genealogy records and then later as the Office Manager at IFA Country Store in Riverton Ut. But her real occupation was being the most devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Ingrid, lovingly known as Oma, devoted countless hours to babysitting her grandchildren, who fondly loved going to Oma's house to play with the blocks, watching classic movies, and enjoying her delicious cooking. She attended what likely added up to thousands of soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball, gymnastics, theatre, and school events for her grand and great grandchildren. On some days she'd even attend three to four different events, rain or shine, to make sure that everyone knew Oma was there. She often joked that there was not a soccer field in the State of Utah that she had not been to.
She is survived by her children, Heidi Brockbank, Tanja (David) Peterson, Steven Brockbank, and Sabine (Dustin) Berlin; her grandchildren, Savannah (Jake), Kaitlyn (Dallan), Greysen, Ireland, Brooke (Brant), Marina, Cali, Tristan, Luke, Lincoln, and Charlotte, and her great-grandchildren Elle, Lilly, Indie, Taya, and Jemma.
