George Edward Newbauer, a proud veteran, dedicated educator, and lifelong lover of the outdoors, passed away on April 18, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on September 19, 1942, in Tallahassee, Florida, George was the son of John Newbauer and Betty Newbauer (née Fleming). He was raised alongside his siblings Catherine, Scott, and Judy. He is survived by his sister Catherine Lucas and preceded in death by his brother Scott Newbauer and sister Judy Waddell.
George graduated from Van Nuys High School and went on to the University of Southern California to earn a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master's degree in Educational Administration. He also competed as a member of the USC track team. Following college, George served his country with distinction in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Captain before his honorable discharge. For his service, George was awarded the Bronze Star, recognizing his bravery and meritorious achievement.
After his military service, George devoted his career to education, working as a junior high school math teacher at Arroyo Seco Junior High in Saugus, California, where he taught for 28 years.
A man of many interests, George was an avid classic car enthusiast with a particular fondness for vintage British automobiles. He was equally passionate about the outdoors, enjoying hiking, fly fishing, and cycling throughout his life.
George was married twice and divorced twice. Though he had no children, he was a beloved brother, uncle, teacher, and friend who will be fondly remembered for his warmth, independence, and zest for life.
Private services will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to the Sierra Club, an organization that reflects his deep love of nature and the environment.
