Gary Dean Milam

Gary Dean Milam (1934-2026)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Dean Milam, who departed this life peacefully on October 26, 2026, at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family. Gary is survived by his devoted and loving wife Gayle of 69 years, his five children-Michael (Deborah), Mary, Matthew (Jennifer), Melissa (Craig), and Melanie (Jonathan)-their 21 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.

Born on August 5, 1934, in their family home on Webster Avenue, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Caton Lucius and Elsie Milam. Gary lived a life dedicated to his wife Gayle, their five children, and his church. He and Gayle were lifelong members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon graduation from Brigham Young University, Gary spent over 30 years employed as a business administrator for CalTech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL/ NASA). Prior to JPL, Gary managed a few Los Angeles area Alexanders supermarkets.

Gary attended RD White Elementary School, Wilson Middle School, and Glendale High School in Glendale, California. His wife Gayle also attended Glendale High School, but the two did not meet until attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where they were introduced by a mutual friend.

After graduating from BYU, and marrying Gayle Carole Kirk on September 14 in 1957, the two lived in Montrose, California, for four years, and then moved to their wonderful home in Tujunga, California, where they lived from 1963 until August of this year.

Gary had several hobbies and interests, some of which benefited his local community. He spent many years as a boy scout leader, helping young men-including his two sons and many of his

grandsons-achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Gary also loved fishing-a hobby he was introduced to by his three older brothers (Don, Jay, and Nyle), while fishing the Snake River in Idaho--a skill he passed on to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His two sisters Betty and Lola also had a big influence on his life. Gary also loved taking care of their family home and was especially proud of their backyard, which enjoys a beautiful view of the Verdugo Mountains.

He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a wonderful example of Christlike love. We take great comfort in knowing that families are forever. We love you. Until we meet again.
