Fred Torres, a beloved father, brother, uncle, grandfather and dedicated enthusiast of life and sports, passed away, leaving behind a lasting legacy of warmth, loyalty and devotion to family.
Born April 6, 1956, in San Antonio, Texas, to Alejos "Alex" Garza Torres and Elodia D Valdez, Fred's journey took him from the Lone Star State to the West Coast at the age of 9. After moving to Los Angeles, his family eventually settled in Burbank, California, where Fred established his roots and graduated from Burbank High School in 1974.
A dedicated working man, Fred spent several years working at Zody's Department Store before embarking on a remarkable 22-year career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He later enjoyed a brief stint at Smith's grocery store before retiring at age 52.
On Sept. 29, 1984, Fred married the love of his life, Marlyn Barrondo. Together, they welcomed four children: Alex, Darryl, Alan "Bobby" and Sherry. Fred also lovingly raised Cindy, Marlyn's daughter from a previous marriage.
Later in life, Fred and his family moved to American Fork, Utah, where he spent his retirement years cherishing every moment with those he loved most. He especially treasured time spent with his sister, Zorina, her family, and his many nephews. Whether celebrating "Lote" in our crazy way during the holidays or enjoying family gatherings at his sister's home, these special moments brought Fred immeasurable joy, love and warmth.
Fred lived life with passion and found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved listening to music, enjoying good food and watching movies with his children. He was also an avid sports enthusiast and coin collector, proudly remaining a die-hard Los Angeles Dodgers and Dallas Cowboys fan until the very end.
Above all, Fred will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, his boundless love for his family and the joy and laughter he brought into the lives of those around him. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn, his father, Alejos; his mother, Elodia; his sister Blanca; his brother Alex; and his nephew, Brandon Steinman.
He is survived by his sister, Zorina T Steinman; his children, Alex, Darryl (Kristy), Alan "Bobby", and Sherry; and many nephews and grandchildren, all of whom he loved with all his heart.
A private graveside service for the family will be Monday, November 2, 2026. Internment will be at the American Fork Cemetery.
