Duane Lynn Gines

July 10, 1946 — May 18, 2026

Duane Gines passed on May 18, 2026, while hiking his favorite trail, the Timp Cave Trail in American Fork Canyon. Born on July 10, 1946, to Daniel Gines and Marva Wagstaff Gines, Duane embraced life to the fullest, was one of a kind, and will leave a lasting legacy of kindness, friendship, and boundless energy to all that knew him.

Duane was married to Sandra and their biggest blessings were their 5 children and their 10 grandchildren. They spent many years tag teaming to support their children as they pursued their careers. Duane and Sandy played an active role in caregiving for their grandkids cultivating those priceless relationships. We all knew we were loved and that our parents would do anything to support us.

Duane also had a global family; he actively participated in the Andean foundation, CHOICE Humanitarian, and The Galileo Foundation. He passed away wearing the original Galileo Foundation hat. This is where he would recharge his battery and where his heart soared. He had countless dear friends who helped make all of these experiences possible.

As he got older he expanded his family to the Cave Trail family, Legacy Center family and the collective family. He would share a bracelet he had handcrafted and a quote to anyone who would listen. He loved to learn from all cultures and walks of life. He took those teachings that resonated with him best and strived to embody those to the best of his ability. He loved life and that ripple effect will continue to live on in all of us who had interactions with him.

Duane leaves behind 4 children as well as 10 cherished grandchildren and his sister, Vickie. Duane is now reunited with his wife Sandra, daughter Angela, and siblings Kenny, Dixie, and Gary, who have all preceded him in death.

Join us in reflecting on a life well-lived. A celebration of life will be held June 27 at 25 North Main Street, Lindon, Utah 84042 from 3pm to 5 pm (open mic per Duane's request).
