Douglas Edward Loveless, 81, of American Fork, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, with his loving family by his side.
Doug was born on November 11, 1944, in Salt Lake City, and moved to Orem, where he was raised by his parents, Rachel and Glen Loveless. He grew up alongside his siblings Dick, Dave, and Janet. At a young age, he learned a strong work ethic while working side by side with his dad in the family roofing business. He graduated from Orem High School, where he was very involved in the wrestling program. Soon after graduation, he proudly answered the call to join the U.S. Army and serve his country in three major wars. His years of service reflected the courage, strength, and dedication that those closest to him knew so well.
After returning home, he remained active in the military by serving in the National Guard. He later began working at Geneva Steel, where he formed many lifelong friendships. Following the shutdown of Geneva Steel, he went to work at Goodfellow Corporation. In retirement, he found what he called his "summer job," working alongside his grandson at Highland City.
One of the greatest joys of Doug's life was meeting Patricia, who became his best friend and devoted wife. They were married on December 13, 1968, and together built a loving family with their five children: Robert, Tammy, Cristy, Wendy, and Tyrell.
Doug found joy in life's simple pleasures: hunting, camping in the mountains, fishing, traveling, trying his luck gambling, and spending time with the people he loved most. Nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was their biggest supporter, always proud of their accomplishments and happiest when cheering them on through all of life's moments, big and small. Whether he was telling stories, giving advice, or simply sitting and visiting with family, Doug made people feel important and loved. He will be remembered for his strength, humor, loyal heart, and his notorious lip smacking.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; children Robert (Shar), Tammy, Cristy (Bobbi), Wendy (Kirt), and Tyrell (Brindee); 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandsons; and his first great-granddaughter, soon to be born. He is also survived by his brother Dave (Kathy); sister Janet (Darren); sister-in-law Valeta; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rachel and Glen Loveless; his brother Dick; sister Delrae; several nephews; a niece; beloved in-laws; and his faithful dog, Molly, who was always by his side.
Services to honor and remember his remarkable life will be held on Saturday, May 30 2026 at 1:00pm at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary in 49 north 100 east American Fork Utah. A Viewing and Visitation will take place from 11:00-12:45 at the same location preceding the service.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Symbii Home Health, Bristol Hospice, and the staff at Timpanogos Regional Hospital for the compassion, kindness, and care they provided during Doug's final days.
Although our hearts are broken, we are thankful for the example Doug set through his dedication to family, service, and friendship. His life was full of love, laughter, and meaningful moments that will forever be treasured.
In honor of Doug, take a moment to enjoy a Popsicle and share life's greatest stories with the people you love most.
