Dean Garrett

d. November 21, 2025

Dean Robert Garrett Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, will be remembered for his kindness and quiet strength. Dean passed away on November 21, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on July 7, 1938, in Glendale, California, to Dean Robert Garrett Sr. and Amy E. Buchanan Garrett. He was very devoted to his family and enjoyed the day-to-day simpler things in life.

In 1963, Dean married his partner for life and eternity, Charlotte Gardner, to whom he was sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together, they built a family rich in love and shared experiences until Charlotte's passing in 2006. Deans spirit of adventure was contagious; he found joy in reading, traveling, and-of course-anything that sparkled and burst into fireworks.

Dean's contributions to the community and his church were significant. He served in many callings within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and took pride in being the Bishop of the Altoona Pennsylvania Ward. His 30-year career with the U.S. Governments National Parks Service led him across the country, where his touch can still be seen on the first paved trail to Timpanogos Cave and through his leadership as Chief Ranger at the Statue of Liberty.

Dean leaves behind his cherished children, Allyson Garrett, Robert (Natalee) Garrett, and Alton (Kim) Garrett; as well as three grandchildren, Robert Tobyn Garrett, Kordell Benjamin (Tiffani) Garrett, and Ruth Hannah Garrett. He is also survived by his two sisters, Julie (Greg) Wittwer and Barbara Richards. Dean was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte, his parents, and his siblings Lewis, Gordon, and Suzanne.

We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating Dean's remarkable life. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sunset Hills 1st Ward, located at 940 North 540 West, American Fork. There will be a viewing on Sunday, November 30th, at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and again before the service on Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in the American Fork Cemetery.

As we gather to reflect on Dean's life and the joy he brought to so many, we celebrate a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and inspired all those around him. Join us in honoring this remarkable individual who will forever hold a special place in our hearts. And as Ranger Garrett would say at the end of every conversation, "copy".
