David Michael Pinney, son of William Russell Pinney and Wilma Irene Cupit, died peacefully in his home in American Fork, August 31, 2026.
He was born on November 18, 1938 in Sugarhouse, residing in Salt Lake City where he attended and graduated from East High School. David then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Frankfurt, Germany before enlisting in th Utah National Reserve as part of the chaplaincy. Upon returning from his service, David then attended and graduated from the University of Utah majoring in marketing.
David met, fell in love with, and married Elaine McDaniel in the Logan Utah Temple on December 19, 1966. They had a happy, fulfilling marriage for nearly 60 years.
David worked as a salesman where he was able to utilize his charisma and knack for human connection professionally. David enjoyed playing tennis, had a passion for photography, wrote many love letters to his family - especially his sweetheart Elaine -and found he had a skill for building things, introducing his love for creating with his family members.
David loved serving in multiple callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including as bishop of his ward and as a temple sealer. Family was always extremely important to David, who spent his life loving, serving, and adventuring with them. They wish to thank Inspiration Hospice, and in particular, Alejandra Newcomb who supported and cared for David. He will be sorely missed...until we can be together again.
David is survived by his daughters Tifani (Barry) and Erin (Dan), as well as his son, Matthew (Teresa) and his five grandchildren Wallis (Nathan), Emma, Jack, Samuel and Tabitha.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 4th at 950 North 60 East, American Fork, Utah. There will be a viewing from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. and the service from 11:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m.
