Charles Herman Webb

December 26, 1932 — May 6, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Herman Webb, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, musician, storyteller, and lifelong adventurer, who passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by his family.

Charles was born on December 26, 1932, in Gulfport, Mississippi, during the difficult years of the Great Depression. Those early hardships shaped the strong, resilient, and independent man he would become. He often shared stories of growing up in Gulfport and the lessons learned during those lean years. As a young man, Charles traveled extensively throughout the country, hopping freight trains and seeing more of America than most people only dream about. He carried that adventurous spirit with him throughout his entire life.

After eventually settling in Utah, Charles built both a career and a family he deeply loved. He attended college studying Behavioral Science, which led him into a career serving others through his work with the Utah State Prison as a lead case worker, later retiring from Adult Probation & Parole. He often shared stories from the many high-profile cases he managed throughout his career, but more importantly, he believed in compassion, redemption, and second chances. He firmly believed you should never kick someone when they are down.

Charles had a deep passion for learning and was always eager to explore new ideas, hobbies, and conversations. If there was coffee brewing and a chair nearby, chances were good you were about to hear a story, a joke, or a thoughtful discussion that might last hours. He loved to laugh and enjoyed anything that could make others laugh too. One of his longtime favorites was the classic sitcom Three’s Company, which never failed to make him giggle.

Music was one of Charles’ greatest passions. Classically trained in vocals through the University of New Orleans, his rich, deep voice — often compared to Johnny Cash — made him a memorable performer throughout Utah. His greatest joy, however, was playing music with his three children when they were young. County fairs, local performances, and family music sessions became some of his favorite memories. He also shared his love of music by teaching guitar on a local public access television station, encouraging others to discover music for themselves.

Charles and his loving wife, Rosa, shared a life filled with travel, laughter, and adventure. Together they spent countless days rock hounding, camping, bike riding, and exploring the beauty of the Southwest and beyond. Charles especially loved warm, dry desert country and was always ready to pack up and go if someone wanted to join the adventure. Their shared love of gemstones and the outdoors even led Charles into silver smithing, where he crafted jewelry using stones they discovered during their travels.

An avid poker player, Charles and Rosa spent many enjoyable hours together around poker tables over the years, collecting memories and friendships along the way.

Above all else, Charles will be remembered for his kindness, openness, humor, wisdom, and the way he made people feel welcome. He had a gift for conversation, a contagious sense of adventure, and a heart that genuinely loved people.

To his children, he was never simply “Dad” — he was “Daddy,” a Southern term of love and respect that stayed with him throughout his life.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Rosa Vance; his children, Deborah (Douglas) Ward, Rebecca Bench, and Charles Brian (Melody) Webb; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents William and Etta Webb, his Brothers Robert and Jack Webb, and his great grandson McCoy Webb

Though his voice is now quiet, the stories, songs, laughter, and love he shared will continue on through all who knew him. Daddy lived life fully, traveled far, loved deeply, and leaves behind a legacy of music, adventure, resilience, and family.
