Catherine Shelton

December 15, 1941 — May 17, 2023

Catherine Shelton, 81, passed away in her home on May 17, 2023, in American Fork, Utah, after a four year battle with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Catherine was born on December, 15, 1941 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to John Victor Wilkinson and Margaret Hazel Johnstone Wilkinson. She was a registered nurse. Catherine married Dr. Andrew Pulley Shelton of Las Vegas, Nevada on September 19, 1987 in the Jordan River Temple. Before moving to American Fork in 2007 Andrew and Catherine made their home in Las Vegas and rural Nevada, where The University of Nevada Medical School recognized her for her caring and compassion and outstanding performance in nursing. She loved those she served as a public health nurse and made inspired changes to the communities she served near the Tonopah area.

In Las Vegas, Catherine served as an LDS Relief Society president in a large ward with many needs. Very few people know that for over a year, she compassionately ministered, almost daily, to a ward sister dying with cancer. She also tirelessly cared for her mother-in-law, Esther Shelton, who lived with her in Las Vegas. She lived to make life brighter for others. After moving to American Fork, she served in many callings including nursery leader. She dearly loved the children who would run to her arms each week.

Catherine laughed easily and listened intently, asking specific questions about school, work and family. She made us believe she cared, because she did. Just as she did in her profession as a nurse, she spread comfort. She was famous for making sweet phone calls and sending beautiful handwritten cards. She loved shopping and fashion. She was a stunning natural beauty who always looked like a million bucks, and Andrew was happiest with his regal wife holding his hand. She also loved the wonders of the ocean and mountains.

Catherine's testimony of Jesus Christ is apparent in the life she lived. She loved reading the scriptures and followed promptings to comfort and lift the marginalized, lonely, or downtrodden. There is no doubt that with her new, tireless, body, she continues to minister to family and friends in her celestial life.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Andrew; children, Andrew Gregory (Susan) Shelton, Heather Armstrong, Suzanne Shelton, Pamela (Anastasios) Panagakos; siblings, Margaret-Ann, Joan, Jack; grandchildren, Kathryn, Madeline, Andrew Kent, Haven, Alexa, Dillon, Jacob, John, Mickey, and Alyssa; and eight great-grandchildren. Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Wilkinson; first husband, Robert Armstrong; sister, Emma; and son, Robert Ayers Shelton.
