1938 - 2026
Carl Alford Pack, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, in American Fork, Utah.
Early Life and Education
Carl was born on September 15, 1938, in Murray, Utah, to Carl Alford Pack Sr. and Ellen Amelia Dunsdon. As the eldest of nine children, he learned the value of family and responsibility early in life. He attended primary school in the historic "little red schoolhouse" in Alpine, Utah, and later attended junior high and high school in American Fork. Throughout his life, Carl was defined by his hard work, honesty, and unwavering integrity-values he lived out daily by following the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Family and Faith
While in high school, Carl met the love of his life, LaRue Frandsen. The high school sweethearts were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1957. They initially settled in American Fork for several years before returning to Alpine, Utah, where they built a beautiful life and raised their family.
Carl's life was anchored by four great loves: his sweet wife, LaRue; his children; his grandchildren; and his Morgan horses. A devoted family man, he loved nothing more than sitting in the stands or the audience, proudly watching his children and grandchildren play sports, dance, or perform music.
Passions and Career
Carl's passion for raising Morgan horses was a lifelong joy that he shared generously with his family. He took great pride in giving each of his grandchildren their very first horseback ride, often when they were just weeks old. For Carl, the perfect day was spent saddling up his horses and taking his children and grandchildren on trail rides through the mountains above Alpine.
Professionally, Carl enjoyed a long and dedicated career with Utah Power & Light. Demonstrating his trademark work ethic, he started out as a groundman on the tree crew, and successfully worked his way up through the ranks before his retirement.
Family
Carl is survived by his beloved wife, LaRue; his four children, David (Darla) Pack, Carla (Gary) Laney, Cathy (Danny) Davis, and Amy (Clay) Jackman; his brothers, Vaughn (LaRie) Pack and Marvin (Cindy) Pack; and his sisters, Lois (Dave) Cottle, Leona (Steven) Walker, and Larraine (Randy) Maag. He also leaves behind a proud legacy of 34 grandchildren and 61 greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers; and his two cherished grandsons, Andrew and Caleb Pack.
