Beverly Fern Jeffs Martin
June 24, 1935 - September 23, 2026
It was natural to love Beverly because she loved you first. She may have surprised you with a kiss on the hand or a pat on the cheek as she expressed her love for you. She always offered you whatever she had...literally the shirt off her back (or the other half of her hamburger).
Beverly Martin was born in Ogden, Utah, to Otha (Ruth) and James Duane Jeffs. As a little girl, she loved being on the heels of her older brother, Roger. Her father's career with the railroad afforded her early opportunities to travel. A beautiful and spirited child, Beverly enjoyed riding her bike, twirling her baton with her best friend, Marilyn Moyes, and playing with her dog, Dixie. Throughout her life, she remained fiercely loyal and loving to her family and friends.
After graduating from Ogden High School, she attended Utah State University. Her university days were some of the happiest of her life. She was highly involved in college as Associated Women's Student Secretary, Senior Class Officer, President of Kappa Delta Sorority, and a member of Corps of Sponsors and Alpha Sigma Nu. Beverly was voted "Dream Girl" of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and performed as a member of the Aggiettes. Two fellow Aggiettes encouraged their recently returned missionary brother (Jerry Raty Martin) to meet Beverly. After a short courtship, Jerry and Beverly were married and sealed in the Logan, Utah Temple on January 4, 1957.
In the early years of their marriage, Beverly and Jerry lived in Texas, Hawaii, and Louisiana during Jerry's military service and medical schooling. They ultimately settled in American Fork, Utah, in 1965, where they opened the American Fork Clinic. They loved their community and contributed to it wholeheartedly. Beverly served in the PTA and on the Advisory Committee of the Bank of American Fork. She was vital in the organization of the Utah Pageant of the Arts-first with the organization of the Guild and later serving on the Board of Directors.
Organized and personable, Beverly held various jobs over the years, including working in a jewelry store with her uncle, Jack Jeffs, and as a private secretary for U.S. Smelting & Refining in Midvale, Utah. She later taught business at Jackson Jr. High School in Salt Lake City.
Beverly and Jerry were devoted parents of three children: Tamera Anne, Paige Marie, and James Robert (J.R.). Beverly found great fulfillment as a stay-at-home mother, steadfastly supporting her children. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including in Stake Relief Society and Young Women presidencies, Young Single Adult leadership, and in the Mount Timpanogos Temple.
During their retirement years, Beverly and Jerry felt inspired to leave their beloved community for two years to serve as volunteers at Southern Virginia University. Beverly shined as a receptionist and Vice President of the SVU Women's Society.
Beverly loved engaging and participating in the beautiful and elegant things life has to offer. This included music, playing the violin, and singing with church groups on occasion. In addition, she enjoyed testing your wits in a competitive game of Scrabble, croquet, or Five Crowns. The parties and gatherings she hosted were always over-the-top and magical.
Prior to leaving us for a season, Mother typed the following:
"Dearest Jerry, Family and Friends,
I am everything I am because you loved me.
Until morning...Bye for now.
Your Bev, Your Mom, Your Grandmother.
Your Gi Gi
Your Friend"
Beverly is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Martin. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Tamera (Carl) Makin, Paige (David) Swenson, and J.R. (Tracy) Martin; her brother, Roger Jeffs, her sister-in-law Carol Martin Schley; and 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren who adore her. Her family is deeply grateful for the love shown by family, friends, and caregivers.
